And because of road closures and farm track detour, Lee is going to get his hands very dirty

And my cholesterol is not going to thank me for a McDonald's breakfast

With the mud dried she looked even better

Unfortunately, at the visual inspection of the car at MDL, showed paint and body damage / wear.
The headlight washer cover had broken off and the bumper alignment off, probably from the detour when Google maps took me down s farm track to avoid a road closure.
Paint was also notices to be bubbling in places.

Rear of all the arches

And the under tray scooping up mud

Bumper will need to come off to replace the failed parking sensor, so once the sensor and washer cover are painted will get this sorted

New bulbs installed

This panel in the wheel arch needs removing

Which reveals the light cluster

D1S going in

H6W for the DRL

LED conversion isn't available and DRLs look distinctly yellow compared to the main beam

A Spark plug was checked as I couldn't find any history of it being done before

Coil pack out

Spark plug (NKG PMR 8B) is definitely in need of replacement so all will need changing

Another job on the list

In the left passenger footwell a sensor was found to be loose.

Turns out the bracket is broken

Looks like a fuel pump prime, like on a caterham but I think it's a roll over sensor. So temporarily secured with a tie wrap

Most concerning is the brake wear pattern.

Rears are nice and shiny, wearing edge to edge and very smooth

The front are visually darker and a very slight texture can be felt on the surface with an un-even wear pattern showing

Pads were cleaned up, reinstalled and test drive performed.

Brakes definitely felt better but on the third hard press the push back from the pedal was less. Lee said the stopping power was good but it just feels a little weak to me.

I called Freddy from special brakes in Germany and showed him the picture. He said I'm not using the brakes hard enough biggrin
And to check them after a trackday. If after this the full pad surface is not being used, something else is wrong

Also, while cleaning the brakes some strange metal balls were found in the cooling vanes of the disk.
Looked like 'welding slag' and easily removed, loose.

Not sure if this is from the manufacturing process?

A diagnostic was also run as well as a good clean

Everything looking good for tomorrow.

Today was an early start and finish at Donington for the Ferrari Owners Club Pista day.

Really had a brilliant day. Met some great people driving a Roma, a 488 and a 296. We shared the garage, lunch and laughs at our awesome driving skills.

Day was on off raining, circuit wet in the morning but afternoon was drying.

What's a line of red Ferraris?

Brakes were better but still disappointing for feel and performance. Maybe I'm expecting too much?
I know I can brake later, I just don't have confidence to trail deep into the corner and use them harder and later.
The Roma driver made car lengths on me at the end of each straight, in the braking area.

Interestingly the 296 has only 300 mile on it and was delivered 2 days ago! Driver is my hero!
296 is showing the same wear pattern on the brakes

296

599

Both new CCM, both with texture, loss of material on the surface. Rears polished and smooth. 296 on standard OEM pads, me on Pagid RSC1

The earlier uneven wear on the pads is probably just from light braking in the rain. With the harder braking on track it's back to even, edge to edge wear

Pads definitely showing signs of the heat

Thank you for the comprehensive update and photos.
Regarding your discs and pads, please check with Lee but I believe that in normal road use and with any form of manettino setting other than CST or ESC off, the rear discs and pads get more use because that’s how the car maintains stability and TC. So the normal glazing on the rears is because the car has been applying the rear brakes more than you’ve been applying the front. Rear pads on my FF needed replaced at a little over 20k miles. The fronts still have plenty of life left - which seems utterly counterintuitive.

Hi ANOpax,

I'm sure that you are right. With conditions today I didn't dare go CST off. Race mode was enough to allow some movement and intervene before it got too lairy.

When I come back on 15th car is in for another service at MDL and a full check over is planned

Had to leave the FOC day early to get new tyres fitted as I could not get an appointment after 3pm

Unfortunately the wheel weights were installed on the outside of the inside of the rim and doughnuts were touching.

It's not about the mistake but how you deal with it and DC tyres were excellent
