Considering a 308, what will £40K buy ?
Discussion
I'm so glad I got one just in time.
I think more and more people are realising what a gem of a car the 308 GTB/S is.
Great fun to drive, fairly cheap to maintain, stunning looking cars, great noise. Relatively practical for a supercar. They're even relatively economical!
Oh, and had I mentioned how pretty they are?

As has been said, talking to the specialists is the way to go. They know what cars are available and will also give you an honest opinion of them as their reputation is at stake.
I bought from a specialist in January and was only the second person the car had been mentioned to...it was never advertised. The few that come onto the market do seem to be selling quickly at the moment.
I'll be really surprised if Slades achieve the asking price for their car - but stranger things have happened. A year ago £40k would have been plenty to buy a reasonable 308 carb car, but as has been mentioned it is now closer to the entry point for these early cars. I guess it would still buy a very good GTBi/GTSi though?
ruebdo, your car looks absolutely stunning and very unusual in rubino. Did you collect it this weekend?

I should think so, but only if you can find one. The supply/demand ratio on all 308s seems to have flipped over.hi theadman,
thanks for the comments, yep, picked it up this weekend.
Foskers where brilliant, and the car is spotless, exactly as described.
I cannot get over the driving experience. It really is a nice place to be. I have only done 40 miles in it to bring it home, but no rattles, squeaks, a very nice place to be. Gearbox smooth, and a great noise!!
I am looking forward to adding some miles to it !!

Hi Jonty355
I have been looking for a couple of cars which are hard to find good ones of. With the 308 I contacted all of the dealers (independents) who specialize in ferrari's saying what I was looking for. Out of 6 contacted 3 replied, and Foskers contacted me a few months ago saying they had just taken this car in.
Most dealers know of cars that are potentially for sale or under the radar. I guess just right place at the right time.
Can't wait to get my hands on it now :-)
Have you checked the colour against the chassis number?...I have been looking for a couple of cars which are hard to find good ones of. There's only 1 car in that colour on the register - Ugandan car 19965 and looking at its reg number, it looks like it's your car. Does the history show some time out in Uganda?
Hi rubystone
It is that car and I did find it on the register.
I also found it selling at bonhams auction 10 years ago which matches the current owner who bought it. There was only 1 previous owner prior to that.
The Uganda bit is a mystery to me, and I have spoken to both owners who have no idea why it says that. Foskers have no idea either.
I have lifted all of the carpets and checked all of the storage hoping to find a couple of bazooka's but to no avail !!

Maybe we should get a few of the glass cars together this summer...
A newbie question
Despite proclaiming on a 360 thread that perhaps the 308 might be a bit too old school for me, I've found a LHD '85 308 GTB QV that ticks a lot of boxes.
Having studied the images the vendor has sent me, I noticed theseitems monstrosities either side of the rear bumper :
I've never noticed them before, and they don't appear to feature on what I'd term a "pure" european spec car :
What are they ? (apart from fugly) and were they only fitted to cars destined for certain markets ? (or are they an i or QV only fitment)
Many thanks in advance

Not just QV, but injected cars, too. If you're very bothered, it can be swapped out with some bracketry fiddling and a fibreglass replacement for about £250 from eg Superperformance. The quality of the rest of the car is far more important than alterable cosmetic minutiae, imho. I'd be more upset by the silly wing shields.
