I am planning a drive through northern Italy in the 3rd week of June, with my 1988 328 GTS. I have not done a long trip in it as yet, and this will be the first. The idea is to take the car on some mountain passes, Stelvio etc, and of course visit Maranello.

Does anyone have some tips in terms of car preparation please which I may not have thought of? Has anyone done something similar and have any advice (either for the car or the trip actually)?

Many thanks.

PS. If any other PH'er is planning a similar trip the same time, would be happy to hook up on tour as well.

We did something very similar a couple of years ago and now planning another for September.
We doing Monaco, Cannes, Maranello for Ferrari, Pagani and Maserati factory tours and the dates just happen to fall in with Monza F1 so what the hell we will have a weekend there too.
Have a look at our pics and info but email me if you want any specifics or Hotel recomenations.

Stelvio is great, but tremendously hard on brakes. Make sure they are in tip top condition as they will be quite smelly and possibly fading by the time you reach the bottom. There are a lot of motorbikes that also enjoy the pass, so better to try and plan the drive at off peak times.
Also, if you travel through Austria on your route in to Italy, remember to buy an Autoroute ticket from a Petrol Station before you cross the boarder. We were not aware and got fined EUR 90 by the police.
