Mondial 8 - what's the consensus?

Congratulations, they are better than all the **** spouted online, I had mine for 14 years.
One thing, those nasty TRX wheels and tyres are old technology and are very hard, I swapped my wheels for the later Mondial T ones with Goodyear Eagle F1s. Circa 2005, car was transformed in its road manners afterwards.

Lovely. Nice to see it on TRXs. Hope you enjoy it.
It had been in storage for twenty or so years before I bought it. Recommissioning was part of the deal and when I viewed it I knew the tyres were toast. A few days later the dealer rang me to say he’d put a brand new set of TRXs on it. If he’d had told me beforehand I would have told him to hold off and put a set of later wheels on it…..Google [bot] said:
Agreed that look excellent
It’s really nice and totally original. I even have the original HR Owen invoice from 1983 for the princely sum of £28000, including optional electric sunroof. A few niggles to sort (fuel gauge, stereo, it’s piddling a bit of coolant) but that’s to be expected. I love it.

That looks lovely. Did you need to use spacers/different bolts or was it a bolt on swap? One thing, those nasty TRX wheels and tyres are old technology and are very hard, I swapped my wheels for the later Mondial T ones with Goodyear Eagle F1s. Wasn’t one of these in Weird Science?
Haven’t seen it for years (have it on the Sky box to watch) but I believe so.https://pics.imcdb.org/1585/ferarri3b.jpg
Remember thinking it was a cool looking car.

A straight swaps no spacers. The only thing I had to worry about was ground clearance at the front as it was a little bit lower than standard. I also got the fibreglass rear wheel arch liners from the “donor” Mondial T as my metal ones had rusted through. We did 22000 miles together before I sold it in 2007.
Please don’t change to later wheels/tyres. If the vendor has just fitted a new set of TRXs, you’ll be stupid to replace them. Cars like this need their tyres replacing on age not mileage. Of course modern tyres will give better performance, but no Mondial is fast by modern standards. Just enjoy it as Enzo intended.

I prefer the look of the later wheels, but as you say it’s daft to change them right now after having brand new TRXs. If modern tyres reduce the steering weight and road noise (it doesn’t have PAS and is a pain to park) then it’s something to consider for later. Doofus said:
I've always wanted to know what these would look like without the side grilles, and apparently they're easy to remove, but I've never seen a picture of a Mondial wihthout them.
I think you can remove the grill as it’s attached with self tapping screws according to the official Ferrari parts manual that I still have, see picture.
