Wow,put the pc on tonight and was pleasantly surprised with all this Dino content, Love Verde Germoglio ,it really shouldn't work but it does in bucket loads, saw a 246 in this colour a few years ago at Bonhams Rivival auction. These vivid colours really suit the car. I owned a 308 GTB in verde metallico medio ,medium green to you and me,sounds much more exotic in Italian .Better go and get some pop corn as looks like it's going to be a long night getting though these video's.

That works as well ! just goes to show that it's not just Lamborghini's that suit bright colours

The Ferrari 246 Dino is one of my all time favourites. A stunning creation and pure unadorned art. Proof, if any were needed, that one doesn't need 1000bhp and 220mph to have one of the most desirable cars. Just need to find out if it drives as well as it looks smile

Here's a nice one (unfortunately in boring old Rosso) at the Silverstone Classic a couple of years ago

That looks lovely in isolation but I wonder how I'd feel if I saw it on the open road. I'm slightly reminded of an F430 I saw last week which I can only describe as some awful shade of toothpaste which would be too disgusting to even put in my mouth! yikes

Sometimes the old colours work best on the classics. All in my highly subjective opinion of course

Always very difficult to get past the looks of a Dino because you just want to love it from the first glance . My father suffered just that emotion and gave in to it . His serial petrol-headedness compounded by the fact we lived just a few miles from Maranello Egham caused him to drop in one day . He finished up with a new one and his joy was complete . Well it should have been but the reality was one of such frustration for him I think , from memory ,it was the shortest time he ever owned a car . The number of times it was back in the workshop was just unacceptable and the love was short lived .
Whenever I see one the phrase “ world of pain “ comes to mind . I guess those that remain are well fettled and give much pleasure . Back when they were very much cheaper I’ve been tempted a couple of times to consider a purchase but I can’t get round what’s permanently lodged in my mind. They still look so lovely though !

They are amazingly lovely cars, and some stunning photos on this thread to prove it. Shame your dad had a mare with his mind.

First time I saw one was outside work, the JCB Head Office, as 'Sir Bamford' as he was back then has decided to drive to work in it. Cracking shade of Navy blue as I recall.

Why the hell not! They appear to be worth near enough what our house is, and I certainly couldn't reach to one let alone a set of three, but then I guess if you were in the right place at the right time they where a lot less if presumably never as such cheap.

Back in the early 70,s my mate purchased a new 246 for a knock down price circa £6k the dealership could not sell them, after 6 months of hard driving it simply fell to bits (under tray floor pan panel etc )Then another mate purchased a used 246 in a RAF blue belonged to tha rich banking family ,at a party back in 1988 he sold it for a large ££££££ over a few drinks, after the stock market black Friday he brought it back for half the price guess he still owns it now ..

Came across a verde germoglio for sale at the moment. Not a huge Dino fan personally, but that colour is stunning

That's my Verde Germoglio GT. I went to ridiculous lengths to restore that back to as it left the factory, right down to the correct slot head black finish screws for the internal trim panels. I had the interior made by Tappezzeria Luppi in Modena and had them make two sets of seat centres for the car. The ones currently fitted are the red cloth which was a factory option and how the car was delivered new. I also had a set of black leather centres made as I thought a future owner may prefer them. They took these photo's for me whilst making the seats.

Remember driving 65 miles in my £1,200 E type roadster on a Sunday just to put my nose and sticky fingers against Maranello's showroom glass and gaze at the new Dino's in various colours. Being new they were not considered a icon then but you knew you were in the presence of something special even then .A few years later i would visit Talacrest's showroom as well who were just round the corner from Maranello's. Could have bought a very low mileage demo coupe for £4k from a Ferrari dealer somewhere around either Bristol or Gloucester area ,can't quite remember which .Did have a slight story in as much it had a small bump but had been repaired in house by the same selling main agent.

This is a Ferrari you enjoy most with your eyes I think. Was tempted to look into them a few years ago and it was depressing how many of them had stories, despite looking outwardly OK. The coup de gras for me was that they're just too slow. You have to rev the tits off them to get anywhere, and while that's fun for a bit, it gets tedious.

100% agree, that's the exact reason i chose my 308 GTS over the Dino and at the time was the wright decision .You need another faster Ferrari . one for looking at and the other for driving which at the time i couldn't afford to keep both. .

Very nice indeed. I've always fancied a Dino since the days of watching The Persuaders (hence my previous ownership of a Bahama Yellow classic Aston Martin). Your DIno would pair rather well with my 70s Ghibli which is also in a rather vibrant Verde. Unfortunately I can't find any spare cash down the back of my sofa just at the moment....

Are they really that slow though? I mean obviously compared to any modern performance car they're slow but that's missing the point. They're, what, 40-50hp down on a 308 depending on whose figures you believe but they're also a fair bit lighter. I find my 308 plenty fast enough to see off the national speed limit on a decent A road so would imagine a Dino the same...

I would imagine most restored Dinos are a lot better than when they left the factory, with fixes for a few of the weak points too. Obviously most are part of collections nowadays so sadly never see enough use to reveal any continuing reliability issues

No they are not that slow just feel it by todays standards , Back when i had the Dino i was all about speed which the Sprint pack engine 308 GTS had in spades, although it's hard to believe i paid £6k more for the 308 than i paid for the Dino.
I would choose the Dino every time now not because of to days values more that i could still enjoy it at a slower pace while looking down the bonnet in between those lovely front wheel arches and listen to that exhaust note that is characteristically Dino and pretend i'm Tony Curtis driving along the Promenade Des Anglais, With a few more years behind me now my taste has changed somewhat and as l said before ,would be happy to just to wear it .
