Market prices already seem pretty spicy. All the cars currently on PH are POA, but these are the asking prices on mobile.de

I was offered an F40 for £90,000 in 1999...I was about £30k short and bought a 355 instead.

x2 in the past 12-18 months. Is this level of increase specific to the F40? seems like an incredible leap. I guess we have seen incredible increases on the F50 over recent times as well.

ouch, then again even more so would have been if you had bought one end of the 80s on the secondary market and then sold in 1999 .....

I also have a mate who bought a McLaren F1 in the late 90's for £500k and sold it at a loss two years later.

Brand new they were circa £170k. I believe they were selling for 300-400k in the late 80's boom. I don't recall higher numbers though I'm sure some chancers were asking 1m.

A year later they were back down around new price.

F40 pricing has been on rise for sure, but I can't see how that particular car has reached what it has so far.

PaddlUp did an interesting analysis on F40 pricing, for anyone like me interested in the data

Think you may have got that one slightly wrong just like your mate did buying the Testarossa instead of the 288 GTO

at similar money because the GTO looked to much like the 308 GTB , rolleyes

Most welcome. There is a download sheet which pops up on that Web page - download it if you haven't already as it shows the data behind the pricing

Surely I cannot be alone in thinking that anyone who spunks £2m on an F40 is going to be significantly upside down on the deal in 12 - 24 months or so ?

Maybe, maybe not. The fact they are now all 30 years old and can be imported to the US plus the strong $ makes them highly coveted.

I should be so lucky! I only found out about the event today after the meet up sadly. Its the F40 that was at emblem when my countach was recently. Apparently a long term owner who has always used it and in all weather.

That is very strange. Unsold with them means didn't meet reserve, surely at that price and profit why wouldn't the seller be happy with that? Mad times
