From 911 Turbo to Gallardo!?

Perceived wisdon usually suggest buying a later car (forums full of talk of the essential MY improvements you MUST have ), but I think the original car was spot on.
Did your father have any particular issues with his 05 Gallardo?
06 + cars had numerous improvements, including but not limited to better sounding exhaust, different gear ratios etc. An improvement absolutely but I'm not sure how much more those cars are compared to the slightly earlier ones. So the OAP would have to decide if it's worth it. Did your father have any particular issues with his 05 Gallardo?
My father’s car (and my Superleggera for that matter) have been fine. He had a slight clutch issue very early on, which was apparently a common problem on the earlier cars. That was sorted and apart from the odd flat battery that's it! I haven't had a single problem with my Superleggera! Which made a vast difference to my 430 which had constant little niggles. Albeit none serious but nevertheless frustrating!

Thanks for the responses, yes it's true seems the only car that could tempt me away from my 911 Turbo is a Gallardo, was looking at Ferarri 355/360 before getting the 911, but Ferarri just doesn't do it for me, unless it was a 360 challenge stradale, but I can't afford 100k!
Great to see other turbo owners in the same boat, funny how car owners a lot of the time have the same previous car history, a lot of 996 turbo owners seem to have come from lotus/ vx220's as well.
Anyway, I did read somewhere Gallardo servicing is £1250 minor service and £2500 2 year service, that's a lot more than 2 x 911 turbo servicing, which is £560 major service and £250 minor! Are these prices correct?
Tyres are the same price as the 911, just paid £500 for two potenzas so i am used to expensive boots!
I think those servicing costs could cause a rethink, add in some tyres, insurance, fuel and any other bits that may go wrong, it could work out very exoensive in two years of ownership????
Servicing costs are not quite that steep. Servicing on these cars is every 7500 miles or 12 months, and they alternate minor/major, with every other major service being bigger to include extras such as fuel filters and belts etc.Great to see other turbo owners in the same boat, funny how car owners a lot of the time have the same previous car history, a lot of 996 turbo owners seem to have come from lotus/ vx220's as well.

All H R Owen dealers are offering fixed price servicing. Lamborghini Manchester currently offering 7500 mile services on 06MY onwards cars for £875 inc VAT, 15000 mile services for £2030 and the big 30000 mile service coming in at £2500. Servicing for 04/05MY cars is a little cheaper due to a cheaper labour rate applied to these cars.
A few parts costs you may want to factor into the equation, front brake pads £310+VAT, front brake discs £800+VAT a pair, a replacement clutch currently at £1709+VAT, with an additional £400+VAT (E-Gear) or £2085+VAT (manual) if it also needs a new release bearing. All these can be fitted on a fixed price basis, front pads £500 all in, discs and pads £1600, and the clutch @ £3250.
I hope you find this info useful when considering the overall cost of Gallardo ownership.
You won't be disappointed if you find the right car.
Im gonna go ahead and say do it Dan, then invite me on a road trip
Brad might be worth an ask if you can find him (Br_d on here), uses his lp560 a lot I think, and a friend of mine who I dont think is a PHer has a gorgeous LP560 bicolore as his daily, never asked him what the costs are but I'm sure I remember him saying it was surprisingly reasonable for a Lamborghini! Another mate is also a big Gallardo fan, had a few issues with his 570 Performante but loves the cars, and they sound amazing.

Don't think I've had a bill for more than £600 in 5 years of ownership which includes a major 15K service in there somewhere.
I lost the man math's argument with the girlie so went from the C2S to a 997 turbo… but soooo wanted the baby Lambo, plus spoke to a few indie's and they suggested that Gallardo’s left out in the rain aren't that happy... hopefully the face lifted models will be a little cheaper when I start looking again in the next few years

Hopeful thinking IMHO. Residuals on LP models are going to stay firm with Huracan at over £200k and sold out for 2 years GRBF430F1 said:

Well I've eventually done it!! 997 TUrbo went yesterday! Deposit on gallardo! I know the turbo is far more capable but the gallardo was an itch I had to scratch! Already promised myself another turbo! Will let you know how I get on.
Please do!Posted this the other day..

That's the thing - there is nothing to replace a 996t in, or anywhere near, the price bracket.
I'm after a Gallardo but that will be twice the price to get into even the earliest of cars.
...which will be less practical.
...and more expensive to run.
...and it won't be any faster.
...and it won't handle any better.

who says its more capable? i went from a 997 Turbo S to a 50th anniversary LP560-2 and there is no comparison between the two, the Lamborghini is in a different league especially in LP format.Get ready for the attention because owning a Lamborghini is like no other.motheatenhound said:
