it was a fairly safe bet that lambo would go down the wings and track stuff route in order to stretch their return on gallardo investment, witness diablo and murc sv

reiter was also a probability

still amuses me though biggrin

why was the sc so much quicker than the sl ?
dare i say its as much to do with that whopping big ironing board on the back....

In the spirit of full disclosure I am from the Fast and Furious era and that spoiler looks awesome to me. Does anyone know if it possible to purchase the spoiler from Lamborghini, if so, I would imagine it was 5-10k?

the LP570-4 is a beautiful ole thing with a glorious engine, but not exactly a pace setter/benchmark..or really that "super" anymore...

It's done pretty well for 10 year old technology, bearing in mind the Squadra Corse is a Superleggera with a few tweaks;
Hmmm...for completeness we should include the Hock...short course....

To wit:

Hock. Short

Pos Make / Model Time Speed (km/h) Year Power (hp) / Weight (kg) Driven by
1. Donkervoort D8 RS06 1:04.80 145 '06 398 / 760
2. Gumpert Apollo Sport 1:07.20 140 '07 700 / 1200
3. Maserati MC 12 corsa 1:07.60 139 '06 710 / 1150
4. Porsche 911 GT3 1:08.00 138 '13 476 / 1425 Porsche factory driver
5. Radical SR3 SL (Road-legal version) 1:08.10 138 '12 243 / 765 Christian Gebhart
6. Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series 1:08.20 137 '13 631 / 1550
7. Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse 1:08.20 137 '13 570 / 1430

Most curious if they ever fire the Squadra round the 'ring...maybe one for Sport Auto.

Guess we forgot about the 918....

Curious definition of a super car...when you eliminate a GT3....

seems in such a definition "super" does not require adulation as the best drivers car or for that matter, handier round the race track...

so how exactly does the Superleggera trump a GT3...? Looks? Price? Over the top'edness?

can't see the Lambo holding its function above the GT3..hell the F12 could not eclipse the 991 GT3..

the LP570-4 is a beautiful ole thing with a glorious engine, but not exactly a pace setter/benchmark..or really that "super" anymore...
The looks and image of a Lambo is far more supercar than Porsche. Don't get me wrong the GT3 is an epic car ( my deposit was down in April 2013 and I'm awaiting delivery ) but I see it as a top end sports car not a supercar brought down to earth by the lower elements of the Porsche range

Its not just about 0-60 or lap times its the whole sense of occasion and excitement when driving the car and FUN being the most important component IMHO. Its hard to beat the LP570-4 Performante for fun noise and excitement and TBH its far too fast for my humble advance driving capabilities

The MP4 12C was the quickest and most capable car I drove when deciding what to buy next but as fast as it was it just didn't appeal to me and felt mundane in comparison to the Lambo

that i can understand....

the sense of occasion/fun/permagrin with a Lambo is a distinctive aspect and indeed a potent motivator...to drive...a super...car smile

and speaking of fun..thought Andrew Frankel captured the pursuit of such in driving well:

"Is it (the 991 GT3) more fun than the car it replaces? Probably not; but if like me you believe a car’s enjoyment is defined by how much fun it is to drive multiplied by how often you feel inclined to drive it, over a lifetime it would be the more satisfying car to own."

sl seats can be tilted back a little ( about an hour with a socket set, or in my case watching someone else with a socket set for an hour ) which has transformed mine for comfort and headroom
Does this achieve much? I'm 6ft5 and I was pretty gutted when I tried to sit in a 570SL, seemed like I had no chance of fitting.

A buddy here in Belgium with a Super Trofeo Stradale did about 20.000 miles in a year in his, including 4 trips to Italy (One was the 50th anniversary Giro). Seems to be great for long trips.

wtf were lambo thinking giving the carbonfibre engine cover and wing a smooth black finish so you can't see any carbonfibre weave ( they could be fibreglass for all you can tell ) ? frown
