journo's are obsessed with slick auto boxes, so manuals are nolonger desired.... personally, the older a car you get, the safer a manual.... less to go wrong, so smaller potential repair bills.... if you enjoy manuals, and are not interested in lap times, get a manual, they are good boxes....
You're right, I'm not interested in lap times at all, I'm interested in this being an event, it fulfilling a small boys dream and it being one of life's great experiences.

I guess the question is; is a Gallardo an event? (hopefully a daft question!)

Have you owned a Gallardo? I've owned 2, once they start approaching 40k miles the big bills start coming in. My first Gallardo I owned for 2 years, I drove 20k miles in that time. I serviced it correctly. I shifted it when it had done 40k miles as very expensive things were starting to go wrong. I personally would not buy one with more than 30k miles on it. Also I'm sure there is a mega service due at 40k miles, although I may be wrong.
So the question is, who's recommended to do a PPI, Lambo main dealer (warranty available?) or a well recognised independent - I think of Peter Morgan's service in the Porsche world?

Cheers

993 C2 manual - a car that I think can give a great deal of satisfaction even at low speeds.

Are there particular colours the market does/ doesn't favour? It's not as clear cut as the Ferrari market seemingly.

Take your point, although I guess some of the expensive issues can be down to age, driving style and care & attention (or lack of) as well as mileage. Its a shame if buyers were to disregard every G - including ones that have been loved and cherished and, as you say, had hefty money spent to keep them performing so brilliantly - just because its above a certain mileage.

I drive mine like a softie so it will last forever obviously...biggrin

I've been fortunate to have a number of supercars but nothing attracts attention like my LP570-4 Performante. Its absolutely ridiculous so if you are the shy and retiring type you will hate it.
As Jeremy Clarkson said every time you drive the Gallardo its a real pantomime.
Visually and aurally nothing else even at twice the price gets close even if its not the latest and best driving car. I found MP4 12C and 458 boring in comparison

The Gallardo punches above its weight in the supercar status game IMHO and everybody loves a Lambo

Read the 911 turbo to gallardo thread.... Every drive an event even after 3 years...

Market does not favour blue or red or silver cars on the pre lp cars.... Personally, the citrus colours are best for the Sunday driver, white black and grey its a daily

All depends where car is based and dealers help.... If miles concern you, get a compression test done... Main dealers don't offer warranty.....

As says Manchester serviced it 100 miles ago, I would get them to do the PPI.... They can compare notes...

I believe most of my problems stemmed from my Gallardo's earlier life. Although the previous owner, and only other owner treated the car over and beyond what was necessary, it was let down by it's services, I.e. Essential stuff not being done as it should have been. By a main dealer who I think has now gone under. This led to having to rectify them when they showed their head. So to me service history means diddly squat. It's how the car drives, and what an inspection reveals is what's important. The car I bought a year ago says in the book that it had just had a major service, but after taking it to Lambo a few weeks after purchase, I find that it had not just had a major service.

+1

The G looks good, sounds good, and drives good.

Going from a dull, anonymous Porker to a shouty Lambo will deliver a huge grin.

Few cars (literally) stop people in their tracks like a Lambo.

I'm hoping that the reaction to a Lamborghini is better than a Ferrari?

TBH I have been lucky and never really had any bad reactions in the Ferrari but there is something about the Lambo that seems to appeal to the general public more than a Ferrari.
I think its seen as being a bit more wild and outrageous where people relate to living the dream maybe and maybe not being so stuck up. A bit more rock star than private banker ?

Annual Supercar Meeting - Ferrari members standing at the bar talking investments/watches/politics, Lambo drivers in the toilets with the bar staff doing illegal stuff

Just to add after driving my gallardo spyder everywhere the last couple of months - everyone loves it (wealthy and poorer/rough area's included) - My only concern really buying the car was this. - I think any Lambo gets a much different reaction from the general public than a ferrari. You just don't get any (rich tosser vibe) so to speak, as i believe (very wrongly) the non car enthusiast public will view the Ferrari driver.
Had nothing but very positive reaction from the public so far.
Seriously everyone loves a Lamborghini! (unless your a ahole driving round knights bridge keeping everyone up) - I am not that old (32) but cant stand this as people will generalize all super car owners in to this show off bracket rather being a car enthusiast and enjoying the car and it's capabilities.
