Hey guys, as title suggests my steering wheel is in need of attention; pile has flattened and it's grubby/grimy. Any suggestions on how to bring it back to life or any detailers out there want to quote on the job? Can you send them away for re-covering even? It's the type with carbon fibre so I'll hazard an educated guess they're expensive to replace ~ I'm t'fore reluctant to 'have a go myself' unless I know it's going to make it better, and not worse.

MANY THANKS!
Victoria

Somebody on here a while back said they used one of those kitchen steamer things, wrapped the wheel with a tea towel or similar then got at it with the steamer. Brings it back to life lovely apparently.

Are you sure it's suede? It's the Performante i've got. Refurbing alcantara is v diff to suede so i need to know. Lamborghini told me it was alcantara but when i read up it's supposed to be suede .... confused.com

I have a Superleggera and the factory original wheel is not in Alcantara, it is in suede - and I believe this to be the same for the Performante.

Whilst an alcantara retrim will look nice and wear better than suede it will have a completely different feel. Suede is a lot more grippy.

If it's alcantara, I would go the following way.

Using a dry nail brush gently rub the SW in a small circular motion. Use very light pressure and slowly work your way round the whole SW. This releases the grim bedded into the fabric. Step 2, lightly dampen a microfibres cloth with water than place it over the SW then grip the Mircofibre and SW with both hands with a twisting action, as if you were wringing out the cloth. Again, work your way round the whole SW. Once done, leave the dry.

I have used this method 3 times in 3 years on my 911 alcantara SW and after 50k miles it still looks and feels like new.

If it's wood, I would go the following way.

Using sandpaper gently rub the SW in a small circular motion. Use very light pressure and slowly work your way round the whole SW. This releases the grim bedded into the wood. Step 2, lightly dampen some wet and dry paper with water than place it over the SW then grip the W&D and SW with both hands with a twisting action, as if you were wringing out the wood. Again, work your way round the whole SW. Once done, leave the dry.

I have used this method 3 times in 3 years on my 911 wooden SW and after 50k miles it still looks and feels like new.

I posted it to them and from memory it came back very quickly, can't remember how much it cost but i do remember that it was good value and i was very pleased.
