i do have lift, but if i'm not paying attention then it's easy to hit 50 between the ramps and have it automatically lower : hence i've caught two very average ramps

i alluded to this earlier, but lifting gear is essential !
Perhaps we just had super-sexy low riding cars andrew because we seem to be the only 2 people in the thread advocating the lift system.

If you're unlucky enough to drive it in East London there are plenty of bumps that will crunch the life out of an unlifted car.
And again, if you're planning visiting any European towns things will get grindey pretty quickly.

It was a must for me.
tbh i put a few more bricks on top of our ramps to keep andrewd away

I use my car as a daily driver, and I use it "spiritedly". But I've never had a problem with speed humps and I encounter them frequently. If I'm driving my car down a road with speed humps and I hit fifty then I'm driving like a and I deserve all of the opprobrium directed at me by the mothers with pushchairs on the pavements.

Really, you don't need the Iifting system day-to-day. It shouldn't be a deal breaker. By the way, have you seen what actually scrapes when it does. It's the nylon under tray, and then not badly. Mines been scraped many, many times (c/f '70s multi-story) but in all of the times I've been under the car (many, thank you David!) you'd never notice.

Ps: I'm not out to upset anybody. But 50 between speed humps! Really? Get a Nova!

somewhat ironic your calling me a c**t because you made the assumption that the roads between the ramps were wholly at a low speed limit ! biggrin

Right we're getting somewhere.

OP originally asked if a lift system was required, apparently it isn't as long as you don't care if you scrape the underside of your car "many many times".

I sort of thought that was the point,
to not scrape it?

I'll stick with my contrary view and say get a lift system. In a car of this sort of value I don't want to be scraping it at all.

OP's call in the end.

If you like;

1 - a trail of cars behind you when driving down a road with lots of speed humps...

2 - the sound of metal scraping tarmac...

3 - not entering underground car parks...

Then don't get lift smile

Andrew. Please accept my apologies. Never post when pissed!

As for scraping, it's a nylon under-tray designed specifically for the purpose! No metal/Tarmac interface ever. And in the horrifically tight and dated BA staff car park on the north side of Heathrow, mine's never once scraped. The only time it does is when driving at speed down undulating B and "local" country roads. Not something that I would advise doing with the front lifted!

Here in the Democratic People's Republic of North London, aka Haringey, the front lift gives some peace of mind when negotiating the humongous speed bumps and the generally parlous state of the roads. My recollection is the front overhang is longer on the LP than it was on the old skool Gallardo.

As others have said, there is a sacrificial strip or ridge, made of plastic, that pokes down from, I think, the back edge of the front bumper. I have a recollection the replacement part costs about fifty quid.

HR Owen used to leave a brochure of things to spend money on in the car after they'd serviced it. The most recent one of those I can find, from a few years ago, lists retrofitting the front lift at about £2.7k.
