Hi guys has anyone experienced their rear windscreen exploding whilst driving
My friend was driving his LP570 spyder (PET) with roof down and the rear window up,travailing speed was around 20/25 mph when he heard a loud bang and the window exploded. At first his thoughts were someone may have thrown a stone yet no one was about
My thoughts are someone may have shot a ball bearing(BB GUN) at the car yet he said "the windscreen exploded opposed to shattering"
Any thoughts anyone??
Thank you

Seen it a couple of times with stones and happened to me on a track day freebee from Lamborghini, stone smashed it to pieces.
The arc at speed does it, but you wouldn't think it possible.

Someone think it was grb430. biggrin ??!? (Couldn't resist)

Not too sure if covered under warranty, will call Lamborghini on Monday
Wanted to know if other owners have had similar experience (maybe a design issue)
Thanks guys for the response :-)

Can they not be protection filmed on the cockpit side to prevent this if it is a problem/design issue.

Has anyone had a successful warranty claim for such a problem?

Common problem with Lotus Elises too. Even a stone thrown up from another car at low speed can shatter the rear window. They shatter into tiny fragments which looks like it's exploded.

A dealer once advised me to always have it down when the roof is down for this reason. Happened to him on a test drive and he knew how expensive a replacement was. I think he had a bit of glass cut to the same size instead of replacing with an original.

I wonder if the person that quoted that managed to do it with a straight face, that's a crazy price for what is basically a bit of glass.

Have a dealer speak with the factory - they sometimes offer things not in warranty. This is more for bodywork but you never know - it might be a known issue they feel needs rectifying.

My friend captured the whole incident on his dash cam,you can clearly see the speed was approx 22mph when the window exploded. Lamborghini are very keen to see the footage (i suspect there are safety issues that need addressing, just imagine the window exploding at 70+ mph)
