Evening all,

Firstly, apologies this isn't about prices of cars. I'm ashamed to say it's about enjoying a purchase I made in the crappy weather of November last year.

I was looking at a new R8 Plus last year as a cancelled order. It was a well spec'd car in blue and I was itching for something new to play with after selling my M4. I really wanted to buy the car but iI wasn't sure about the looks on the configuration, I also hated the gear shift lever as well. In the end I viewed one twice at York Audi but no one seemed remotely interested in talking to me about the car. The service and shape left me a bit, well... under whelmed.

So, on a whim I decided to take a trip to Lambo Manchester. As I walked through the door I saw an orange and black LP570 Super Leggera with lots of carbon fibre trim. I also saw a Huracan in Orange as well, so I decided to test drive both to see what the score was.

I was expecting to buy the Huran, but I found the SL just more raw and matched what I personally thought a Lambo should be. The Huran was really good but I preferred the paint colour on the SL and the way it felt more raw. My last Italian car was a 360 Strad so creature comforts aren't high on my agenda, but drama and sound is.

So, after a number of months of really crappy rainy weather, last weekend I finally managed to link up new driving shoes, sunny weather and clear roads. At long last I could have a play and use the manual paddle gear change. In short I was expecting to be disappointed by the paddle shift but I found it pretty good, in auto it's bloody annoying apart from the noise of the downshifts. The driving shoes gave me more feel/control of the CCBs and so a thoroughly good experience was enjoyed, the noise is very addictive.

I usually change cars quite often and Over the years I've tried single car and two car set ups in the past. As much as my daily driver annoys me I love taking the cover off the SL to see it's metallic orange and lovely contours. It simply makes me happy every time I take the cover off, and everytime I drive it makes me giggle like a six year old boy.

I was thinking a Huracan SL maybe the next step, but my current feeling is to keep it long term. Keeping something long term is a new thing for me. The only thing to tempt me at the moment would be an Aventador, but the SV will requires a little bit of financial planning,... Man maths to be applied... 😎

Just my 2p - Loving the world of Lambo.

GoM

Lol.

Yes some of us occasionally think about residual values as we have other business opportunities to invest in. Or in my case I have aspirations for an Aventador in the very near future.

Enjoy the fun in Sun my fellow car enthusiast.

Hi Vergis,

Please don't think my comment about car prices was aimed at you.

I'd been looking at various sections of the forum and every one seemed to be dominated by prices. I appreciate that as part of planning for new toy investment this is useful info, but there didn't seem to be much chatter about actually driving cars.

Then I thought, hang on how often do I actually post anything rather than just lurking. Hence my little post.

What are you driving at the moment, and how far off is the move to an Aventador?

Cheers,

GoM

Many thanks - it's been a long winter waiting for a suitable slot to have a decent play. Until a few weeks ago I'd spent more time driving in heavy rain than the dry.

You're spot on, it's an ET version - I love the colour especially when the suns hits it. It seems a deeper shade than than the current Huracan colour, really suits it. I kept reading how people thought the gearbox wasn't great. Yes, it's not as slick as a DCT if you just want mash your foot into the floor in auto, but that's what wanted. A car that you had to think about driving, otherwise it's too easy and you lose interest. It does have it's little idiosynschrosies but again, all part of the character and fun.

I also find it amusing the way people actively go out of their way to take pictures, flash lights, give you the thumbs up etc. I was sat at traffic lights and the guy behind just kept saying "Lamorghini" over and over. I remember doing that as well in my finest Italian accent....??

I think not buying the latest is down to me showing my age....newer is not always better, the M4 was very quick but the car left me cold and couldn't gel with it. Also, must stop forgetting I'm in neutral at the lights and then hitting the accelerator. The women I scared half to death with the noise wasn't amused.

Top stuff - the noise is awesome. Unfortunately due to family commitments I couldn't get out for a play. I' m very jealous. 😀

Standard pipe or something more fruity?

You deserve a pat on the back. As you say every single thread on here is dominated by price talk (most of which is BS).

Enjoy your car smile

Thanks CGT2 - the next step is to sort out some pictures and get my ass & car into Europe on a hoon. Don't get me wrong I'm no driving god but I love all things mechanical.

When I was picking up my car the sales guy was talking to a chap who had a Porsche 911 and he'd been talking to him for 8 months. Numerous test drives later and the guy still hadn't bought a car - WTF? I don't have endless funds, but it took me less than 10 mins to decide I wanted the car and about 30 mins to buy it.... a common theme for me.

Buy it, drive it, love it - life is about experiences, good and bad. Leave the number crunching to the sad knackers and accountants. By the way, if I still had half the cars I owned or nearly bought, I'd be absolutely minted.

Sadly hindsight is sometimes a real bh... Happy hooning!

Cheers,

GoM

Haha! First weekend I had my 599 I drove 60 miles for no reason other than to blast through the Hatfield tunnel. Came off at the next exit, turned around, drove back through the tunnel and home again. Bliss indeed! smile

love hatfield tunnel. sounds best under load so I slow to 50 (traffic permitting) on entry to then mash the loud pedal.....

the noise that V10 makes, from mid revs up, is imho one of the all time greats, even on a stock exhaust.... I hit over 124db on a stock on my pre-lp car....

op, welcome to the dark side.... not enough lambo love amongst the buyers, public cant get enough however.

I am so pleased to read this as I thought I was the only one who felt like this biggrin

I thought I was going to buy a Mclaren 650s GT3 458 or Huracan idea

But whilst I was looking I became more familiar with the Lamborghini 570-4,Initially I bought the SL but the deal fell through. I then found a very nice Performante and just as you have said fell in love with the style, carbon, V10 Soundtrack and the anolog feel of the drive.

To date I still love the gear change, you know when its gone in,its also much smoother than I expected but with some soul left in it.

The noise is simply addictive especially as my car came with a Lamborghini sports exhaust.

Although I never stop looking at cars for now I just cant see anything to replace it, smiles per mile etc laugh

As you say every time you take the cover off it just looks so right.

It could be a long term keeper eek

Nice to see there are at least two of us

Viva La Lambo

Enjoy

Hi guys,

It's really good to read people about enjoying their cars. The sound of 'V' config engines is superb - especially in tunnels. No matter how fast the electric motor cars are - they just lack the essential raw noise.

Juno - it seems we bought our cars for the same reasons and we're both seriously enjoying them. I'm envious of the your garage, mine's a few months out as I need to extend it so that I have a dedicated work area. Also looking at a lift so I can store more....

Interesting note about the exhaust. I was speaking with the Lambo Manchester about the Lamborghini sports exhaust, but just wondered what it offered over the stock SL unit. Is it lighter and more free flowing? I would have thought the stock unit should have been pretty good as it's supposed to be a lighter car from the factory.

Looking forward to reading and sharing more chatter about fun days driving in the sun.

GoM

Nice to see a little love for the SL/Perf :-)

I've had my LP570-4 for over a year now and still absolutely love it. It takes alot to beat that V10 soundtrack and I still think it looks modern depsite a being 10+ design.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Says a lot about this guy that he comes along with one snide post defending values then ignores your post. Probably because he's driving nothing interesting and too busy updating his macro on value projections.

Top stuff, any info you can find would be awesome. Had a quote of £5K for the official sports exhaust. However I'm still waiting on then to confirm the differences. Don't what to make the change for no real difference.
