Downforce is a function of the square of speed and the effect on tyre grip and therefore cornering speeds is as a % of the vehicle's weight. On a 1500+kg (without driver), for the downforce to be relevant, you need to be going very quickly or have a huge amount of it. Quite astonished that people actually believe this aero marlarkey. It's the newest marketing fad that the manufacturers like to hype about though.

If you get up to 200mph you can drive my car on the ceiling.

It ruined my light fittings.

5'10 you may well be, however height isn't the problem - more the size of your big head...! ;-)

I currently have a 570-SL and I'm not really a fan of the Huracan, technically very capable but not my cup of team in terms of looks etc. I made the 9 hour round trip journey to the preview event on Sunday, and I was kind of hoping it would rule it out of my replacement car options for 2017/2018.

However, despite the colour of the preview car not being the best, I found that the car does have a lot more appeal than I expected. I personally don't buy cars based on carbon tubs, trick aero, top speeds or lap times but what they look like and how they sound/make me feel. The car has some very nice touches and the seats are great. Don't get me wrong there are bits I'm not keen on but overall there are a lot of plus points - some visual, some under the skin.

I think in the right colour with the optional wheels (which look awesome) then this car will be fantastic. A very purposeful looking and potent little 'bull' which will keep you very entertained. The alternative for me is to spend the cash on a used Aventador, but that is a very different proposition indeed.

So I'm still mulling on the route forward.... GoM.

I'm in the same boat. I'm erring towards an Aventador because I've never owned a V12 but the rumours about the performante are making the decision much harder.

Probably like yourself the whole V12, scissor doors, non-shared platform etc, etc is really appealing. The only path forward I can come up with for delaying the Aventador purchase boils down to the following: the Aventador 'S' is probably the better option to go with, but I can't stretch to that at this time. So I either stick with the 570-SL or go Perforante for a few years and enjoy a more technically advanced, quicker car until I can make the jump to the 'S' or ideally the 'SV'...

It's clutching at straws I know which is really p*ssing me off. I usually see a car, like it and buy it - bugger.

PS - I don't want a McLaren, Ferrari or Porsche.

Ditto.

After having V6's, straight 6's, V8's and V10's I need a V12 to complete the bucket list. And of course the doors are something to tick off the list as well.

I'm not a fan on the Aventador S styling tweeks so I'd probably go for a roadster.

What colour was the preview car that didn't suit it?

That's interesting - which bit of the 'S' styling doesn't appeal- the front end? Part of me thinks it's more cohesive, then the other part thinks not as aggressive. Technically I think the 'S' has a lot of plus points and probably last of the V12s.

The Huracan P colour was the matt orange with gloss black for contrast and grey wheels. I'm not a fan of matt or 'frozen' colours - I like pearlescent paint and my 570-SL is orange and black with dark wheels. That's the other problem, I'm not sure which colour to go with - my first choice would be orange usually.

My reservation with the Aventador is the size. The 570-SL and Huracan Performante will be more nimble, but the Aventador is more of a spectical.

The front a bit but especially the new bits on the rear intakes. I think they look awful.

Matt colours are so passe now. Don't know why manufacturers think they are still cutting edge.

As for the Aventadors size, I share your reservations but part of me thinks, these are Lamborghini's we are talking about here, so go big, or go home!

Perhaps I need to have another look at the 'S'. Not really looked the rear intakes.

I've also had quite performance focussed cars so I have a niggle about the Aventador not ticking this box. However, it may more than make up for it in numerous other areas.

So in reality it boils down to small and fast, or large and ridiculous with a huge grin factor... no brainer really. Aventador all the way.

Job done - many thanks for the help!

So I've made my decision but if the stats are true then the Huracan Performante will be an fantastic car - not sure how it will translate into real world performance but at least you'll have a rear wing, new aero, new wheels and new seats.

All the best, good luck and enjoy your new toy when it's delivered!

carbon tub smile

I do keep looking at Aventadors ... can't afford atm, they do look and sound very special - definitely on the bucket list
From the pictures I have seen, I also think I prefer the pre-facelift look - but tough to say without having seen it in the metal/carbon

Sounds interesting but I think "game changing" seems to be banded around far too often these days although it does need to be significantly better than the standard Huracan to be any good and competitive with 488 and 720s.

Hope its a cracker and they build a wild spyder as well

My business partner saw this on Monday.......the aero is definitely a game changer for lambo at least.....the car sounds like it is going to be absolutely epic (especially if you love the huracan which I do). Some really cool and clever stuff in this car.

I don't really fit in the spyder either (6'1). But the coupe is brilliant seating position-wise
