Yep, they're right Rich, no 'fest this year.

I didn't achieve what I wanted to in 2004 so it's back to the drawing board.

There will be another but work is required on format/venue before I'm confident that I can run an event worthy of the brand.

WHAT?????

Surely not, we're already putting our plans together here for another cracking event???!?!?!?!?!?

Speechless.

edited to add.. we're getting over the speechlessness, what are we going to do for the yearly piss up now? I appreciate we have BTAP, but that isn't for everyone, if you know what I mean.. I thought the idea of PF was a relaxed affair that's a good chance to meet and greet, have a good old drink and generally great weekend?

Ready and waiting..

Yep, it's a relaxed affair for attendees but not necessarily for the organisers

The calendar for this year will include Mini-Eurohoon, Spa Track Day in July, PH Track Academy days, several Caterham slalom days, Eurohoon and BTaP.

PistonFest will return when I'm ready.

It was a big headache for Ted and other individuals to organise, it is hard to believe the amount of time and effort that went into the organising for not much return. I understand completely where Ted is coming from and I am sure in the future it will return bigger and better than before.

selfishly I couldn't have gone this year anyway

Thats a real shame but having seen the organising from Ted's side and helping with just a tiny bit of it, i can totally appreciate his apprehension of another year of the same.

Is there any way of having a small non-Pistonfest Pistonfest if that makes sense?

Maybe a weekend long trackday event with a marquee and camping?

Or maybe a mass Pistonheads camping area at Goodwood FoS?

No one thing in particular, but there were plenty of 'challenges' over the weekend which took a lot of work to smooth over.

Yes I sympathise with Ted and the other helpers. Somehow PF'04 didn't work like PF'03 and it wasn't the wind. I got the districted impression that an empty field with a beer tent and a PF loo would have done the job and I'd happily hand over money to attend. That's all I use PF for and I've always thought it value for money.

Bigger and Better!! Please don't, it was too big last time, I want small and friendly with people entertaining themselves. No offence but motoring stands and speedway track is petrolhead, bungee jumping and hang-gliders are not. Oh and £5/pint is not the way to encourage people into the beer tent.

IMO PF'04 did not succeed because it got above itself. I hope for something more like PF'03 where the PFband was an event singing about PH stuff and people returned to their tents at the end of the night and spent time chatting.

That said...

Let's not pack up and do nothing. Lets go camping and enjoy a weekend of PH community gathering. That is what PF is about for me and many others. I don't get to meet you folk very often and BP&T has never been the petrolhead event PF can be.

A local band thrown in and thats that

Bob - as for hang gliders - an inspirational idea (these ones did have an engine )

BTaP would be better for you being there!

Thinking some more, PF is really the only event that I (and probably many other PH'ers) can actually afford to go to... That's one of the major reasons for mourning it's loss.. Local "Runs Out" are all well and good, but not really a chance to have a good couple of beers and chats with like minded people..

So if there's no PF'05, hows about we try to find a campsite and have a chilled out weekend of drinking and chats? Just people with cars!

Thanks for the kind words. November is a busy time for me. I'll be in Hong Kong November '05 celebrating 25 years with Carole 'Stardust'

That's it. PH Chillout Weekend. Come on Ted you know you want to. Plenty of helpers at your disposal.

why not do something slightly different, one presumes the main trouble came from organising the toilets, campsite, beer tent, advertisers... why not get someone else to do it for you?

I'm fairly certain that if you spoke to a relatively large campsite somewhere central (Straford seemed good) they'd more be more than happy to let you "take over" their facilities i.e. allow us to use their toilets/showers and camping spaces... It probably wouldn't be that much more expensive either (£10max a night to them = £20 for weekend).

I'm with Slinky on this one, PF is the only organised PH event I can afford to attend, and while PF2004 seemed a bit of a let down in some respects I look back now with fond memories of meeting new people in a friendly environment. Then again, I didn't meet more people due to the Beer Tent been so loud...

Ted, if you don't want PistonFest to be ran by Pistonheads, or you don't want anything ran by "Pistonheads" at all this year, hows about letting someone else organise something along the above ideas using your site's workings but making sure it's not a PistonHeads event? i.e. I make enquiries to a campsite, arrange the details, but it's advertised (for free) on PH and worked in a similar fashion to BTaP - you book yourself on the campsite... That way it's not a PH event as your name is not attached to anything, but we as members can all meet up somewhere to have a laugh over a weekend...

Ted,

Is it really beyond saving? There's an up welling of PHers that will do anything you ask to make PF'05 happen. No it doesn't need to be better, it only needs to be simple. We don't get enough opportunity to get together and after only two PF's it's become a PH tradition. PH will be less without PF. We need this, I need this. Come on Ted this needs to have PH leadership otherwise people will try to organise their own events and the whole thing will go regional.

Maybe locally organised weekends would be the way round this, I mean everyone has their unofficial local meets, and that is who they will most likely get on with, we all arrange our own meets, why cant we organise our own campfests.
Just my thoughts
