Not sure if anyone has noticed.
The "broken" quoting appears to have been fixed
So well done PH Tech team on that!
Maybe now just remove the bubbles.....
Indeed. For all the moaning on this thread, such responsiveness is unheard of from PH. I've "only" been active on here for eight years (although lurking for a few before that) and the forum look and operation has moved at glacial pace in that time...until the other week. The "broken" quoting appears to have been fixed

Hell, the image upload is still 'beta'
Folk should try and appreciate that this is the prize at the end of all the upheaval; a more modern, responsive platform where we can reasonably expect things to evolve/improve over time.
It already feels snappier. Tangible benefits for all, save for a few luddites

Also, the quotes are not longer highlighted as being "yours" like before - they were coloured like your own posts or had your own post highlighted in a box of colour so you could easily see.
Yes, I noticed that broke earlier today. Your own posts are still highlighted, but not when other people quote you. jsf said:

I don't know how old this forum software actually is.
You see how at the bottom of the page it says "Copyright PistonHeads 1998-2017"? That's a fair indication. I joined PH in August 2001 and it had already been running for a year or so. The code has grown organically in that time - ie. probably a bit of a mess.
As we've discussed several times already on this thread, a migration to a new off-the-shelf forum platform would not be a trivial task, and would also involve big up-front investment for only a long-term gain. Fixing what you have is always quicker and cheaper in the short term (but not the long term).
It's not that difficult with the tools provided by the BBS provider.
I managed it and I haven't worked in IT for 15 years, I now throw spanners at cars for a living.
Scoobynet used to run a BBS that was written by the owner, when that was sold to Internet Brands a few years ago they carried out a full migration to an off the shelf modern BBS package.
This is not rocket science, it's not even expensive to implement and would probably be cheaper than trying to bespoke write this archaic package, which is bloody awful now.
Out of the box software would mean some proper stability, good performance a working search! and all sorts of other functionality - look at Xen Foro for example, stacks of functionality in that.
I'd suggest it would also return gains in terms of cheaper maintenance and admin immediately.

Blue and purple are the standard colours for visited and unvisited pages. Purple indicates you've previously visited that page. Bold indicates there's a new post in that thread since your last visit. Bold purple indicates that there's a new post in a thread that you have visited.
So what's the significance of no purple bit is a thread on "My Stuff"?If it's in My Stuff, I've posted in the thread. So if nothing else, the page on which I posged should be purple, possibly bold purple, but not all blue, surely?
So, what we're saying is, no-one has a fking clue what the colours mean? Because I agree if a thread is in My Stuff then I've posted in it and it should therefore be purple.
And lord knows I don't want to be looking at fking purple.

I use the red handbags to let me know which thread I havent read
I dont need the bold thread titles
Fair enough, I never look at them.I dont need the bold thread titles
There are no less than 3 visual indicators of unseen content in a thread, the icon, the background highlight colour and the bold.
To my eyes the icons, being yellow/red just add extra colours in to the mix and make it more cluttered.

I decided to spend a few minutes playing with the styles, here's what I came up with.
I presume you did this with a modified local CSS file? If so, that's an encouraging sign that proper skins should be fairly straightforward to implement.
Maybe Haymarket should hire you? Or, failing that, make the Gassing Station an open source project and allow people to submit changes and enhancements. Or, at the very least, they could accept CSS files for submission as skins.

Might be better still to move to a hosted solution from Lithium - that seems to be the platform of choice for Sky, BT, EE, Sony, etc.
