Punctuation in user names has never worked with quoting - "Who Me?" and "Nigel Worc's" are the most visible offenders.
I thought theyd fixed that from time to time?
Surely as soon as it's seen the [ followed immediately by quote it knows a quote is happening and the only key pieces are the = and the ]
Any other characters can be treated as normal text

I rather suspect it is just using Regular Expressions rather than anything as custom as that.

As the non-escaping of characters in usernames has been a long-standing problem I suspect that this is one of the things that is able be fixed now that the forum appears to be on a single version/skin.

Previously it would appear that there were multiple different codebases and any such changes would need to be made and tested across each, potentially with different dependencies and side-effects, hence the reluctance to do anything.

We shall see.

Can we try turning off the bold for a while??
Surely the slightly darker blue text colour and the red handbags are enough of an indicator

The text on the bolded links is the same colour as the other links, it just looks different because it's bold.

You're still left with the background highlight colour, the folder icons and the little jump to page icon at the end of the page numbers.

I've not commented on the appearance of the forum before, it seemed fine to me as it was, but logging in today I am finding the new font very awkward to read , it seems to be badly spaced with some characters having double-pixel uprights (eg lower case i and the right vertical on the H etc...) , it resembles the text results you get when you set your screen resolution to a non-standard res, and it has to scale to fit.

The colours seem fine , as is the bold font in the topic lists , but the non-bold font within topics i am finding very unpleasant.
+1, but fixed instantly with a "ctrl" + "-" to reduce the screen zoom to 90%. (in Chrome)
Actually, this works well on my desktop. Perhaps it should be made the default font size? Eminently more readable and less tiring.

Excess and unnecessary use of bold fonts still grates though. grumpy

The main problems I'm having with the new format are:
a) The colours on the topic list pages, mainly the pale blue on grey, make is uncomfortable to read - contrast needs to be higher.
b) Too much white space, and fonts weight too low - again just makes it uncomfortable to read.

Lots of posts with quotes are being screwed up with my username, which has no special characters. Using Chrome. They seem to work properly with Firefox though.

Edited to add, that's where people are quoting me, that's when it all goes tits up.

I've not used the desktop version since the recent changes .... until today! OMG - I've been using the GTI skin for the last few years so when all else was ditched it was of no real consequence to me. But, as I think has been posted many times over the past few days, the way the posts are laid out and the font size used (too big) it really is very hard on the eyes.

Sorry is this is a pearost!

When clicking on a new thread I get sent to the last post with the last visit sash above it even though I've never seen the thread before. I used to get taken to the opening post previously? Something changed?

Using mobile on iPhone.

Think I can just about get used to this new layout, feels like the mobile site while I liked the old Big Blue skin but eh, ok, a unified look probably isn't that bad overall. 2 points:

1) The blue text for links isn't so easy to read - a tad darker would help those of us without perfect eyesight. Yes, I get that it matches the blue bar at the top, but just darken that too and it'll feel more like the old theme, win-win.

2) Thanks for making read links change colour again! However, it only works on the topic list. Please make it work inside threads too, as that was really by far the easiest way to skip to where I'd read up to within a long thread. Right now the page numbers are all blue regardless of whether you've read that page or not; they used to go grey if you'd been there. It's also handy if you can see if you already visited a link someone's posted or not.

Sorry if these are repeats, haven't really got time to read 100+ pages tongue out

Our local is run by a French bloke. He has a big bag of dog biscuits behind the bar, so the dog knows and likes 'Ou sont les biscuits' and gets distressed when he says 'Pas de biscuits'.

I'm sure we have had this.

However, anyone else noticing that if someone quotes one of your posts, it doesn't appear with a blue background? Really annoying when trying to look back over threads and see if anyone has replied to you.
