Slight thread resurrection, but maybe this has been sorted now?

This from the recent mid-engine article

Looks like the images served are now rather higher res (1024x768), and I don't see so many artifacts.

Just as well, as Sim Mainey's photography on that article is great!

Admittedly none of those cars are red, which seems to really show the problem...

I thought the same the other day! Not brilliant but much better! Would be interesting to hear from a tech to confirm what change has been applied. smile

Hey guys, you've probably seen we've updated the look of our news article pages and as part of that we asked the journalists to stop resizing the images. This now means we have larger images, but unfortunately they still go through the same image processor in our ancient 1990's CMS. That means we just now have larger-sized images of red cars with unexplained artifacts.

We are looking at changing the CMS which would fix a lot of other pain points the journalists face and allow us to have better content for you guys.

Until then, I'll tell the journalists to stop reviewing red cars. driving

How are your Classic ASP skills? Could you write us a new component to resize images using VBScript?

Don't worry about the poor photographer. Dayfdd's coping mechanisms have really matured over the years.

Thanks for acknowledging the issue anyway Matt. The initial response was to question the OS and browser we we're using. smile

Cheers, Matt smile

I'd given you a bye on that particular car, as I suspect the image has been round the houses a few times. Once to get the image into the classifieds, followed by a second time to get the classifieds image onto the news site.

I haven't owned a red car for over forty years. Maybe this is why smile

That's grim.

Again, it's images from the classifieds being repurposed as "news". So the images get compressed to smithereens for the classifieds, and -possibly- someone just takes a screen grab of these and feeds them back into the CMS for another round of pummeling,

Garbage in, garbage out.

Do you guys mean to say the entire journalism side of the site was redesigned a couple of years ago and the owners had it bolted onto an old Classic ASP CMS??

Who would do that?

I think they might have cracked it boys. Nice large images, clickable to zoom, much reduced artefacts around the dreaded red, even a carousel!
