Well yes I can see that. All that means is someone chose a smaller photo when writing the article.
Sorry missed a wink and a smile off - fundamentally they look the same too me too

Sorry to keep harping on, but if we're going to be obtuse...

PH

Auto Express

The Times

Evo

PH like a lot of other outlets used Alpine's own launch photos, except theirs have been shrunk and even then, horrifically compressed. https://www.parkers.co.uk/alpine/a110/ has 56 pictures on offer and they all wipe the floor with what we have here!

Another day, another tremendous PH image, this time from the 911 Carrera T article.

Seriously, chaps, this is your shop window!

The Autocar image has what I'd consider 'typical' JPG artefacts.

But the PH one - god knows what's been done to it! The artefacts are terrible, particularly in the paintwork down the door gap. My best guess is that it's been repeatedly resized, recompressed. The autocar image file is about 30% larger, but that's largely explained by it having rather more pixels.

I don’t pretend to know the intricacies of images but I know when the colour of the fking thing actually changes, something isn’t right!

That may be 'by design' to give the image a bit more 'pop'. But one of the Mclaren interior images was totaly scr*wed - the orangey-brown seats had turned bright red!

This is exactly the kind of crap I'm taking about: https://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-features/p...

Why even bother, PH? It's actually offensive to the eyes.

Those are so st that If I was Dafydd Wood I'd insist they removed my name.

The underlying photos are fine, just royally screwed for the website. Honestly, why bother even paying for photographs if this is how you're going to present them?

it's frequently displaying lo-res thumbnails when it should be using the higher res images.

What's all the more shocking is that this is their business. It's what they're here for and it looks ste.

Also if I'm being really critical, none of the photos look like anything better than Joe Public could turn in with a mid-range smartphone.

I can see why people are complaining about the resolution of the pictures. I’m typing this on my iPad using the google app, where before I was on my Windows 10 laptop using IE11.

Can't you shift all the image hosting off to Amazon S3? Go as high res as you like then!

Amazon still charge you for bandwidth, surely?

Above a certain amount, yes.

Do Haymarket care enough about PH to pay for it though. No.

S3 has a free tier with 5GB of storage, but you can only use that for 12 months.

AWS S3 is great, but I suspect the problem is not hosting cost or storage space, but the change in image workflow and web design to make the site work with decent images.

It's not just the quality, but the size of photos is so poor for a media website in 2018.

My general PH use is in the forums, then occasionally look at the news. If there's a new car released, I'll head to TopGear.com or another site where I can get a nice full screen gallery.

Why is PH applying watermarks to pictures they didn't take?

Are PH trying to pass them off as their own?

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

From the article.

From the web.
