I don't know how easy it would be to develop but has any consideration been given to the introduction of like/agree/thanks button on forum posts? I get (and offer) a lot of good advice on these forums and it would be good to able to show my appreciation without clogging up threads by quoting posts just to say thanks.

Yes, and the answer was no - thankfully.

Several reasons, not least of all because PH isn't Facebook (or similar).

IANAM, but more than likely because it would end up being massively abused as it wouldn't get used for it's intended purpose.

I've seen it numerous times on other forums where you get certain groups of posters / cliques repeatedly clicking + / positive to big up their own circle, and - / negative any posts that are made by posters that they personally don't like / who aren't in their circle.

Given what it's normally like on PH, in certain sub-forums, I reckon it would only take an hour or two before it ended up being just like it's described above getmecoat

I would rathe limit the characters, and the number of times an individual can post on a given thread.

It's not twitter either

How about people who join PH - a forum of many years running accept it's a fking forum

without avatars,
without signature lines
without signature pictures
without likes
without limitations on posts per day
Without limitations of posts within any individual thread

and above all more than 140 (280 for some users) characters is allowed in fact in many cases appreciated

If you want any of that stuff go and set up your own forum stop trying to change this one

This place is not Reddit or Facebook, i think it'd be worse off for those kind of buttons/gimmicks.
