I feel sorry for the OP, that thread must be taking up a lot of his time! He should just stop replying!

Over the years I have noticed a pattern of response to a number of recurring posts:

- I was speeding
- Had an accident
-had or having an affair
-OH left
-committed a crime

In general, when the unwise come to PH for advice, the response is not advice but a lynch mob that builds up in fury to macerate the OP who then disappears, leaving the PH posse to polish its spurs for having run the miscreant out of town. Let's face it, the idiot deserved an even worse fate than the courts assessed and probably should have been stoned.

I wonder why people do this.

While I have never had the need to post such a thread if I wanted advice on speeding for example then I assume that I have admitted my transgression and do not need the torrent of abuse. ( I exclude the superb and objective advice of AGTlaw who actually answers the question rationally).

Seriously, do people think it is admirable to kick someone who is just taking a question?...yes , of course there is negligence and stupidity which is why the issue arose. Presumably the OP knows this.

Do people think internet mob scenes advance anything?
Here's your answer.

The abuse usually comes from those who live totally unfulfilled lives.

Usually aged 45-55, passed over for promotion several times and in a job they can neither change or leave. They have no control in their working life. In meetings they are not listened to and are virtually invisible to their coworkers. At home their wife tends to belittle them as soon as they walk through the door. Their sex life died years ago. They sit and stare at the TV most evenings wondering where the years have gone and why success has eluded them. The beautiful girl he always wanted to go out with at school is married to a dynamic business owner and has holidays in far flung places, while his choice is Rhyl every year because his wife does not like change and she was the fourth choice.

Yet give him anonymity he finds a place where people will read what he writes and he catches on quick that by being obnoxious and nasty some people take note of him, that finally he has found some importance amongst others of a similar outlook. The worse and the more unfulfilled his day the worse his comments.

Bravo sir! This is exactly what PH needs; useful, detailed responses that have clearly come from hard won personal experience.
