Fake virus redirects
Discussion
Hello,
An update from the product management team, who have been working on eliminating this issue since it was raised.
These types of ads are really hard to eradicate on any site. They disguise themselves through layers of redirects so identifying the cause is quite difficult. They innocently make their way into the ad ecosystem via reputable suppliers, then morph into these redirecting ads.
Trying to reproduce the problems at our end is hard because it doesn't happen to a high % of users.
One thing that can help is - in addition to a screenshot of the ad - your browser history from when you visited PH to where you ended up. Please continue to post in this thread.
We are in the process of turning off different suppliers, which is a slow process and tbh a bit of a blunt instrument. It doesn't identify the root cause
We are also about to apply another tactic that has worked in the past. Once that's done, we'll let people know in this thread and we can see if it works.

1: Pause your Outbrain delivery.
2: Ask your users if the problem has gone away.
Repeat until you find the offender and then inform your legal dept to deal with it by explaining your loss of revenue and the reputational damage that they have caused you.
You have a willing army of helpers sitting on your forums that all you're currently doing is pissing off. Those who haven't yet installed AdGuard and implemented 'EasyList' to forever block all adverts from PH are waiting to help your team of specialists who are struggling to replicate the issues due to it just being one bloke called Dave hitting refresh every 5 seconds while focusing more on what trendy satchel colour matches his beard best.

Just switch off your Outbrain, or whichever form Haymarket uses, feed on day one and inform them that if they wish to continue winning your business they need to fix their problem. They are costing you eyeballs and irritating your customers who are downloading AdGuard which means you won’t ever get those eyeballs back. You’re part of Haymarket and your chosen partner is damaging your business.

I’m getting redirects to various websites since yesterday. On the upside I’ve won a new iPad and a million dollars.
Lucky you I only won a chance at an amazon gift card for loyalty to Facebook products.Safari on iPhone

I took the advice of someone earlier on this thread and downloaded the free AdGuard app. Once installed, under filters I turned on EasyList and all these issues disappeared in an instant and PH pages and pages across the web that are loaded with these third party ad delivery services speeded up amazingly. It removes you from that ghastly world of ten things you wanted to know or what someone looks like now. It’s been like having a TV that was permanently showing ITV channels switching back to BBC.
I’m not a tech type person and generally avoid tinkering with anything away from its default settings but this app has been a great addition to the iPhone.
