Interestingly, I’ve been browsing on and off for the last hour or so on the iPhone and it hasn’t happened.

3 times in the last 5 mins on Safari.

Doesn’t happen on any other website I use (including Plumpers Monthly).

I clicked into this topic to see if it’s happening to anyone else, and ironically it sent me to the spam pop up thing

Accessing on iPhone via Safari

Same here.

I've given up using it on my phone for now.

Utterly unusable on tablet and phone, both iOS and Android. Not tried laptop.

I try to avoid using ad block on free sites like this as it’s only fair to “pay” for use/upkeep of the site with background ads that generate revenue for PH..... But if you’re going to let these kind of ads run then I’m afraid ALL ads are being blocked from now on.
Same here. All ads now blocked I’m afraid.

This is really annoying...fix it, please, and if it is your ad provider, sack them and use someone else.

This is a BRAND NEW iPad, activated and installed 2 hours ago and I’m also getting redirects. Ridiculous, as is the lack of response here.

Plenty of responses. AdGuard. Switch on EasyList. Problem goes away as do all the adverts aimed at thick people such as ‘you won’t believe’ or ‘lists of ten things’. It seems to clear out all the low brow rubbish over the web.

I'm also seeing reports on other sites of similar things happening, including the Grauniad. I think there must be a down-stream 3rd party advertiser who isn't checking stuff sufficiently

It’s almost certainly Outbrain who are being used to deliver these spam pop ups, rather than AdChoices or Taboola. Although if they’ve done it to one ad serving agency then it seems probable that they’ve done it to the others?

Yup, I've redirected outbrain to 127.0.0.1 on our dns server, I never get the popups on my iDevices when I'm here.

Or tried to do it to others and been blocked by them having competent systems / giving a st?

You don’t really get much of a say as to what Outbrain delivers. You embed their code and that’s their space to deliver what they want. But Haymarket must be large enough to have access to a 12 year old lumberjack impressionist at some outsourced sub-office of Outbrain who could at least relay a message that Haymarket has turned their account off to protect their valuable users until the issue is remedied?

Oh, I don't expect Haymarket to vet adverts. I expect them to choose a network which competently controls the material delivered and blocks abusive content.

I meant an official one, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They've basically washed their hands of the forum as it's not revenue generating.
