Another one hit with this issue. Using Chrome, in F12 dev tools I can see a massive long cookie in the request headers, lots of instances of ASPSESSIONID.

After deleting them all, I don't see any more occurrences when I try to view the site again, so is this a legacy issue that's now been resolved? If not, it doesn't seem realistic to expect people to be editing cookies to be able to view a site, especially if they're not aware how to get on in the first place to be able to find the workaround...

If I don't sign in, no issue

The second I sign in (say unwittingly, or to reply to a post) and then try to go back to the front page - buggered.

The lack of HQ staff replying suggests they, and more importantly, the site's owners, don't give a fig

Been broken like this a few weeks now. Sort it out, people...
Been off it all Xmas as I thought it was down and just get this error whatever browser I use. Cleared IE cookies and was a bit better than chrome but still 500 errors and no access. Works off phone (here) but I never use phone for PH. Pants!

I can't find any "ASPSESSION" cookies in my cookies list. Just deleted everything PH and it works now.

Same here - Windows 10, Chrome.

My browser had a few hundred 'ASPSESSIONxxxxxx' cookies set by pistonheads.com, taking it over the header limit.

Looks like they only expire if you close your browser. If you're like me and leave everything open, then they'll accumulate until the connection breaks.

Deleted all cookies, logged in again, and all is working for now.......the question is for how long. Seems an eror that so many cookies are created that it crashes. Please fix on server side!

We did, sorry we forgot to update this thread. If you have cleaned up your cookies you will no longer see the ASPSESSION cookies

Snap! NEVER close a tab - you will need it the next day ;-)

I've been getting this over the past few days, deleted cookies and all was ok for a couple of days and now the only way I can access PH is to search google for "HTTP header is larger than 10240 bytes"

I'm using windows 10 and Chrome.

I'm not sure this is true.

It's not, I deleted them then a couple of months later I've been inundated and had to delete again. This is only on PH, no other sites that I visit seem to suffer the same issue.

Thanks for pointing it out, you guys were right! Under close inspection we found that although we've removed most of them they were still being created. I've now disabled it at the application level so it shouldn't be created any more at all.

Cheers!

I had this message HTTP header is larger than 10240 bytes when trying to book a slot with Sainsburys on my PC. I tried the cookies suggestion to no avail. Then I changed my browser from Chrome to Microsoft Edge and found that the error message did not appear and I am now clear to use the web site. Have to mention that I am over 70 therefore a vulnerable user so can book deliveries once a week at a given time.

Hope this will help anyone else who meets this problem on Windows 10.

Just did a search in the classifieds and got the "HTTP header is larger than 10240 bytes." message in the top left of an otherwise blank screen when I tried to click on any of the cars that had appeared in the search.

Got this repeatedly yesterday, seems fixed today.

A bit poor though given that PH is basically all about the classifieds and the problem has existed at least since last year. Will people searching for cars mess around with cookies, or will they just go to Autotrader? scratchchin

Hey folks,

This is quite a hard one to reproduce our side, and thus to track down the cause of...

In the past this issue was being caused by something which was fixed last year, it seems to have started popping up again for certain users due to something else unrelated to the original issue.

We've today rolled out an optimisation the site to reduce the size of the header in our requests - this should (hopefully!) have a positive effect on the issue.

We are interested in seeing if the problem continues after this though, and at that point we can do a deeper dive into what could be causing this... so please mention here if you are still having this issue.

Info around which browser, operating system, any browser extensions you're running, and where you are seeing it (Homepage, Forums, Classifieds, News) is usually appreciated too.

Cheers!

Just tried again. Same issue.

Click "Buy".
Select make.
Select model.
Enter postcode.
Click "View results".
Click on a car in the results...

"HTTP header is larger than 10240 bytes."
