Hi just some quick feedback, I've noticed the post code is always required when selecting the distance 'National'. I understand it doesn't take long to enter a post code but having to do it every time is a little annoying and would make for quicker searching if 'National' was exempt from needing a post code.

Cheers

MDMA .

You don't have to do it all the time. When you log in, just click remember me, then every time you go back to the classified section, it will be there.

The website is built to remember your postcode and populate it for you each time you do a subsequent search. Are you using multiple devices? Ad blocker? Brave?

This used to work for me, but it never remembers me now. Been like that for years.

iOS iPhone 11.

Click "buy" in top nav.
Enter postcode
Search

Go back to forums
Click "buy" in top nav.
No postcode saved.

Interestingly if you do the same journey in Desktop Chrome emulating iPhone via dev tools, it does save the postcode.

How strange. It works on my phone when using an incognito window.

The postcode has never once worked for me. I use Windows, Firefox, AdBlock Plus, and all sorts of tracking blockers.

They can’t mine the data if they turned that off!

It is perhaps worthy of not that neither this nor your later comments address the underlying question: why is a postcode required for a national search? wink

The distance from postcode is shown against each ad and you can sort the results by this metric. Seems a useful thing to retain even if you don't care about local results.

I understand the utility; it was the lack of option I think the OP was flagging.

There have been times when you couldn't even remember who you are smile

Now that I’m back on the car hunt I’ve been reminded of this really frustrating issue. The post code is never remembered and in any case should be optional.

I’m happy to travel nationally to get a specialist car so I don’t care about the distance.

Hi mods team,

Emailed through about this a couple of times but not heard back so thought I'd try on here.

Please can you sort this, it's a right pita. Happens on both laptop and mobile.

Cheers in advance for your help.!

I'll flag this with the engineering team again to see if there's any further investigation that can be done.

We've now released a fix for this, which should prevent you being prompted for your postcode when you've previously entered it. But if this continues, please let us know on this thread.

Doesn't work for me. Test procedure:

1. From Gassing Station, mouse over Buy -> Buy used cars, right click and open as new window (not incognito) so as to stay on this thread
2. Enter postcode, view results
3. Close second window
4. Repeat step 1 - postcode box is empty, search will not proceed.

Chrome 95.0.4638.69 (Official Build) (x86_64) on MacOS.

I'm assuming you're using a cookie for this? I usually reject cookies from PH (and other sites). Under GDPR, providing a degraded experience / denying use of the ads as a consequence of refusing to provide personal information (a postcode) is AIUI illegal...

The correct solution in my view would be to make the postcode *optional* and make the sort-by-distance functionality appear *conditional* upon the existence of a postcode. That would be a usability win IMHO smile
