Aside from the debate about whether 1000 is too high or too low, how would a user know of their status on ability to post on NP&E at a glance (apart from trying every so often)?

Go into your profile and it is shown. Easiest way is to just click on your own name on one of your own posts, although you can also use the menu bar.

You can also enable the display of everyone's post count next to their name (it's disabled by default).

Edit: well, it used to be disabled by default. Scrump's reply seems to suggest it is now enabled

Thank you
Edit- I couldn't see it but that may be because I'm using my phone to log in

As a relative newcomer to PH I find this rather disappointing as I’ve enjoyed the variety on here. However this feels like censorship and to be honest, it makes me feel unwelcome (a bit like living in Russia/China/North Korea where they are restricted by the controlling powers on what they can and can’t say and do.

Totally understand banning or suspending those that are obviously here to stir up trouble but as a regular guy I think I’ll give PH a miss from now on.

Farewell to my ex-fellow PHers…..
Are any of your ‘TooManyCars’ 2cv’s by any chance? wink

Blimey, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Whatever happened to him? There was also a Trabant owner who would occasionally troll the trainers thread in The Lounge, but I enjoyed his contributions (and at times he would exhibit a remarkably tasteful collection of his own).

Censorship? Oh please. Got something to say, say it.

Putin is a dick. The war sucks.

I'm quite frustrated.

Been a member of what must be 10/11 Covid worse than disease volumes, never been banned, and find I cannot post anymore?

Nice one. Why not introduce the rule for NEW accounts not existing ones?

Anyone with a burner account already waiting in the wings would be salivating at such a chance. If you’re going to be a saddo and return while on a ban, the best thing you could do is have an account with a registration date unrelated to when your main account was banned. That said you can’t be far off the 12 months now!

Quite correct

Both metrics on this are draconian - the 1000 post one too much so

Is the reason for your restriction to contribute to NP&E that you have <12 months of membership, or that less than 1,000 of your 2,784 posts have been made outside of NP&E?

6 months & 500 posts would work for me . . .

But then I am not the best judge of human behaviour smile

Maybe another criteria would be if constantly you post that you've 'never been banned' that you never get access.

One excellent, informative thread in NPE has been killed stone dead by this: the "military losses in Ukraine" thread:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

The OP only has 333 posts.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=...

It would be nice to think the mods could make exceptions...

There appears to be no comment from PH to this discussion and the suggestions made, so I guess we can conclude they are either members of the royal family or really don't care about the collateral damage of their new policy.

It is a shame that this measure has had to be introduced.
Once you have an exception for one individual, another worthy exception will be identified, and another etc etc.
The admin required would most likely be prohibitive.

Current action is simple to implement ( methinks ) and should go a long way to remove toxic posts.
Who would want to be a mod and deal with some of the more toxic posts on here?

Just hope the other forums don't get flooded with posts of :-
"Good post!" or..
"Tell me more"
just to artificially increase post counts.

Now off to see how that bloke is doing with his German battleship paper kit...
