Avatar's / Signature pics

Ted is there any chance we could have avatars or signature pics? It would be nice to try and keep the forums as neet and good looking as it is now so maybe best to go for one or t'other rather than both!

Does anyone else have any opinions on this?

Been discussed a few times, I think that, in the name of page layout and maintaining the clean lines that both are not likely to appear anytime soon.

I like things as they are. It would start to get cluttered if avatars and signatures were added. Besides, you can always put a pic in your profile.

PH does NOT need avatars / signature pics etc.

It makes the site slower for people on dial-up and looks cluttered.

Its fine as it is IMO.

I agree that one of the nice things about this site is how clean it looks. However if you were to limit a sig. to say 60pixels high, and say 10kb then it wouldnt have a great affect on loading times, something like this for example.

Please Ted don't change the layout to add sigs and avatars!
Some other forums I look at (less and less since I found PH) you get a 2 or 3 word comment followed by 10 lines of repeated drivel, sometimes it's hard to find the actual post

Good job Ted's dead against it... saves me the hassle of knocking up a script to strip them out again

Sigs are a lot worse than avatars but they're both pretty annoying and get in the way of reading the forum. And even 10k-limited ones would add up to 400k on a full page which would be a total arseache for dialup users.

Hence why I was suggesting a single sig limitted to say 60 pixels in height, I also hate long blurbs some users have on other forums hence why I wasnt suggesting it. However a single, small, tasteful signature pic can look really good IMO.

This thread was intended to guage reaction to the idea and we obviously have a very clear answer to what the majority want, so that is fine!

That sort of thing, but its too big because that would clutter the page, but keeping them half the size it isnt an issue

He has stated above that he acknowledges that the majority don't want them


I love the site as it is, even if the avatars were small, it still makes the forum look messy. Luckily Ted feels the same way

I don't like signatures but I do prefer avatars, I tend to scroll down and it's easier to pick out posts from people you find interesting and avoid others, just small avatars, neat and useful imo.
