what it is, if it pops up I get rid of it, and get annoyed at the same time. I certainly don't bother to read pop-up ads. Pop-ups are the spawn of the devil and I get rid of them as soon as they appear. I'm not aainst advertising (I'm all for it if it keeps PH alive), but pop-ups I object to.
Well, PH was a popup free zone so I knew it would be a matter of some sensitivity when I did introduce these ads.
PH isn't about to spawn popup ads on every page. Each reader of the site should see the popup ad once only.
Why? I have been approached by a very large advertiser who wants exposure on the site. The ones you've seen today have been to prove my delivery mechanism works.
The forthcoming campaign should be of interest and hopefully the ads that are popping up at the moment should at least provoke a smile.

So you're either going to base this on log in ? Or on your cookies (which don't seem to work very well) Pop ups
Problem in the marketing concept too as a lot of your advertisers seem to post on PH so will be aware that people who don't like the pop-ups will start using ad blockers - so they won't be able to see the current advertisers adverts either (just a thought...)
And furthermore what kind of major advertiser doesn't realise that pop-ups are not a good way to make friends and influence people

I thought that was UK specific...
At the end of the day, the man has to make a living. I think it's fair to say we all know that he won't have taken this decision lightly. Give it a go... give constructive feedback and see what happens... IMHO.

I nearly pee'd meself laughing. If you see the ad rarely its not such a problem. Advertising only becomes objectionably when it gets in the way of the content.
Look at the difference between Channel4 (perfectly watchable) and ITV/Sky One (have to tape shows so I can fast forward over the ads).
I'm sure Ted will get the balance right. And after all - if the odd popup pays for my daily entertainment I'm quite happy.
