..and who said pop ups had to be annoying.

I saw a useful one the other day for enlarging your pen... erm, pension fund, so they can have their uses

On a more serious note, I think pop up usage must be dealt with in context. I hate the waves of pop ups you get on free webspace sites etc. but when it was Valentine's Day, I didn't mind The Sun online having a mail order gift pop up. Reminded me to get something for the missus and The Sun merchandise was very good value if you liked man made fibres

Quite frankly if pop-up ads can help our dedicated host Ted buy a house without him having to sell the TVR let it be that way.

Don't get me wrong - I loathe adverts, but as the few of us who have had the opportunity to meet the Boss will certainly confirm I think it really is worth it.

Keep up the brilliant work Ted

PS : as far as I'm concerned I don't mind ads in english since I am not supposed to be any kind of 'commercial target'

Don't think I saw anything pop up yesterday - what was it? All I saw was the animated T Shirt stuff when you posted....

If you have a look at your contributions Greg you'll see the pop up.

Lot of fuss over nothing IMHO.

Matt.

Not everyone would have seen it. I only ran it for a few hours to test out the mechanism.

seems alright to me...gotthe speed matetrs on yesterday.

As others have said...they only become anoying when its all the time, and when they spawn when you close down the site (Domster should be able to provide some exmaples of sites of this nature it would seem )

MrsD...they actually DO work, in the context of advertising...they are one of the only forms where a genuine ROI can be proved.....the percentages needed for resopnse are so tiny compared to outlay..

Night

p.s. Alex....unlikely that any EU law will make the slightest difference in an international arena. Its also reasonably unlikely that the 'intrusive marketing' rules likely to be applied to texts etc. will be applied to pop-ups.

No problem. It got me thinking anyway and I've reworked things to stop you getting a popup on each page.

Aww, if I'd known it would be funny I wouldn't have closed it before it had time to display.

I REALLY hate pop-up messaging, but what can I say? I don't begrudge Ted a pay-rise.

Just please keep it reasonable Ted, I love this site but too much of that will really put me off.

Considering that we get free access to the excellent forums and other areas of the site, plus all the other meetings etc. that PH spawns, I don't think any of us are in the position to begrudge the odd pop-up ad etc. (not that I've seen one yet ).

Just give Ted a break. If you don't like it, find some other site to frequent!
