Two points I have re read the thread and it appears the A1 ,A303 M11,M27,A38 Little Eaton etc must have been relocated abroad

Fair enough, it had developed a bit from when I read it 'til when I replied to this thread Fair point re: the A38, but in my defence it was at first light and there wasn't another car to be seen ... though that's no excuse really

the thread ultimatelly leads to "i've driven faster than you.....no you havent" and then the slanging starts

That's a tricky one IMHO as any thread giving, say, performance figures for a new car brings out the 'but my Porsche/TVR/Tuned Maxi does 0-60/ 60-0/ Scunthorpe-Aberystwyth faster than that' tendency. I don't know how the my ____'s faster than your ____ arguments can ever be resolved without culling threads en masse.

Agreed this is tricky one the only way IMHO is to monitor these type of threads VERY closely and intervene (sp?) where necessary

P.S hows MrsD not seen her post for a while

Well, this is the price of PH's success..

I think some are being just a bit over-sensitive. I'll freely admit there've been a few tiresome new characters of late, but they soon either get with the programme or pipe down.

I don't want to change the tone of the forums. We don't want them to go all Evo, but equally I don't think that slapping people down and closing threads willy-nilly is a legitimate way to steer conversation or to evolve things.

IMO, that style of over-bearing, heavy-handed moderation is likely to upset the long standing members whose contributions have helped to make PH what it is today & it'll also provoke the few idiots into causing trouble.

I think we can look at these threads and be fairly sure that for every one who's prepared to boast that they've done 100mph up Wigan high street, there are 3 who'll tell them what a twat they are and why.

By reading, absorbing and acting on some of the (sometimes hostile) advice I've read here over the last year or so, I believe my driving, particularly in terms of awareness, has improved no end. I'd be surprised if I was the only one who could say that.

If those who could learn from the advice here are put off the board by miserably old git moderators, then we've missed an opportunity to positively impact on the standard of driving in Britain - at least amongst those who think of themselves as enthusiasts yet all too often give us all a bad name.

So let's not try to get overbearing in restricting what people can talk about. The PH Forums have largely evolved into a self regulating community and moderator powers ought only to be invoked when absolutely necessary IMO.

Chill out

is closely followed by:

A person could take offence

She's with my grandparents back where she was brought up (Texas) and I imagine she's out enjoying herself ! NYC was a bit of a nightmare because the weather was appalling so she had plenty of time to play on the computer

Well, none of my family or pets have turned up filleted and I appear still to be in possession of a full complement of wedding vegetables, so I'm guessing your Mum ain't too bothered

Besides, I didn't mean her - it does seem that PH is missing something without MrsD's contributions so she clearly made something of an impression.. I'm guessing that's "what she does"

How is her foot/ankle btw... will she be appearing as a stooge in Americas Falling-Overest Criminals?

Hi MrsD if/when you read this...

Some good points well made. I too was pretty unimpressed with some of the threads, but agree that if the 130-in-a-30 brigade moderate their behaviour as a result of being slated then that can be no bad thing. I've certainly started thinking much more about appropriate use of speed, particularly in built up areas, since coming on here (though I'd like to think I wasn't too naughty in the first place!)

If the moderator can steer the thread in a direction of healthy discussion rather than locking it, that would seem the ideal. We as contributors can help with this by contributing intelligent responses to counter the silly stuff rather than calling for the debate to be cut off. Discussion is what we come on here for after all, if it gets curtailed at the first sign of a controversial opinion things will become bland pretty quickly.

All in all I find the discussion on here intelligent and well reasoned most of the time, even when dealing with contentious issues.

All IMHO
