Ive just been charged £22 for enquiring about a car using this "phonesafe" rip off! Not happy at all about this - as it's completely free on Autotrader and is far from obvious you are going to charged when using the number. TOTAL SCAM VERY DISAPPOINTED PISTONHEADS
Contact http://www.psauthority.org.uk/ and see what they have to say about it. PH’s use of PhoneSafe may or may not be compliant but it has to be worth getting in touch with PSA to find out. Also this is an interesting section of the T&Cs:
Will PhoneSafe affect the response to my advert? Sellers are not going to notice any difference in the amount of genuine interest in their car as only canvassers, not buyers, be filtered out.
Sellers may not notice a difference, but they’ll receive fewer calls as some potential callers will be put off by the extortionate rates.
Anyway roll on another 64 months of no one giving a toss!

In terms of compliance, we are compliant. I've spoken with PRS directly and they have informed us that what we are doing is in guide with the acceptable use of 070 numbers. Whilst it is expensive, a 070 number is not deemed to be a premium rate number. Phonesafe is not an important revenue stream for us, the decision to not replace the service now, is simply down to the fact our resource is now spread incredibly thin.
(I think she meant PSA)070 numbers aren't covered by PSA as they're "Personal Numbering Service" rather than a "phone-paid service".
They're regularly used for fraud,scams, etc... https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/00...
OFCOM (which is probably the correct org to complain to) is reviewing their use. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-stateme...
