What about a chat room.. cos all these threads people say use e-mail etc and like quick convo's it would be easier to talk on a chat room?

chat rooms have massive overhead on the servers. Huge. It would cost Ted a lot to run a live chat service on here.

Plus, the moderation aspect of it wouldn't be so great...

Ted's said NO lots of times before, a big reason is because of the libel aspect. Just search for 'chat' in website feedback, I'm sure you'll find lots of treads.

Alternative might be to create a channel on an established IRC network, then put an IRC activex control on PH for those unfamiliar with IRC software.

Would be safer than running an IRC server which tends to be a magnet for underachivieving herberts!

Agree 110% with mungo, it has been said before, live chat will ruin the entire forum concept. The heart of ph is the help and advice that can be looked up at any time day or night. live chat would effectively remove that.

I am a firm believer in chat rooms only being of interest to teens and sex addicts.

Moderating chat rooms would be problematic and the transient nature of information discussed would mean that fewer people get to read it.

I don't think it would add any value to the site.

I think Teds hit the nail on the head with the two descriptions of chat room users , fortunately I can vouch that this one is a teenager.
Yes he does use msn and as far as I'm concerned he can continue to do so .
