Main reason I don't like the cigarette socket is, it was designed to send power out, not in, plus the wires attached to the back of the socket are very thin, so keeping a charger attached for long periods could heat them up, potentially melt or worse start a fire.

Going direct to the jump terminal is without doubt the best place, its also in the Lamborghini Handbook! So if they recommend attaching a charger/jump starter there, it's the right thing for me.

There have also been cases where people attaching things wrongly to theses cars, caused the LIE Computers to fry, which is an expensive lesson to learn.
I'd best chuck my Electronics Degree in the bin then smile

i'd have to agree with you, trickle charge = low current = no heat unless a filament....

the op's question is about ongoing trickle charging in order just to keep the battery conditioned, for which ctek etc work just fine

the handbook is talking about starting a car with a dead battery : obviously trying to send such a large charge through the cigarette lighter would be a bad idea !

I'm well aware of what the handbook shows and what the OP has asked, it's just my own personal view, I work on lots of cars, also having spoke to a few other Lambo technicians here and the US, it was mentioned by them too that they keep the charger at the terminals, or if you really want too, some modified little connectors that come straight from the battery and leave it at the wheel well. Accessing the battery is just a pain in A though lol.

The professional storage guys tend to use CTEK tricklers through the battery.

Professional storage guys ! Would it not be more professional to remove the battery ? I don,t see the point of storing a Diablo in the first place except over winter months , if I was to store a Diablo for a few years I,d be removing the battery terminals at least . For winter I just trickle charge off the battery terminal in the engine bay however I,m thinking of having a link fitted near the battery for ease of use so I don,t have to drag leads over the paint work or open the bonnet . Saying that , more risk of driving off while it,s still connected , and with my memory probably best to keep the bonnet open to remind me .

As for trickle charges , any decent one will do the job , it,s just a battery right that costs a couple hundred quid .

I'm able to feed the plug down at the rear of mine, just between where the aluminium coolant pipes are and AC pump, then connect the mains power from underneath, so no cables over the paint work and you can shut the hood and activate the alarm. I also put a bit of masking tape on the drivers window to remind me the charger is on.
