Since removing tints from the rear lights of my 02 Murcielago, i have noticed that one of them gets a lot of condensation on the inside. Probably the reason they were tinted! On closer examination I see a few chips in the outer lense/perspex cover that must be letting moisture in. I have found I can get the replacement lense from Eurospares for £150 and I have seen a guide to removing the whole light unit, on examining the light unit (not completely removed) the lense seems to be bonded to the light unit. Does anyone know if this is the case? Or even better done what I may consider doing? Cheers

Hi Peter. Glad you're getting rid of those tints. They were nasty! As regards the condensation, drill some small holes on the bottom of the cluster to let the moisture out. I did this with mine and it's sorted the problem out. You only need very small holes and as they are at the bottom so you won't notice.

Are you sure you can buy replacement lenses? Seems a bit odd especially if they are bonded. I know they sell the rear panel of the lamp at £150. But couldn't see any lens listed.

On the Diablo the lenses can be purchased separately, but they are just screwed in.

As saggy has said the early Murci suffered badly from this problem and I like many others I drilled the underside on the light Lense with a 3 mm drill bit which done the trick, or you could replace the car for an LP which didn't suffer the same problem ......the later a little more drastic

If you need any advice or help please feel free to pm

Thankyou for your replies, Yes the rear tints were a bit naff, but i was afraid of what i might find! My car has been full of little surprises! When i removed the tints one of the lights was a bit milky looking. A good friend sanded it down and polished it, so its nice again

When I said lenses I probably didnt use the correct word, i mean the plastic cover, that goes over the light cluster.

Id love to go the LP way, it seems the logical thing to do in my eyes. But my wifes being a spoilsport and wants a new kitchen and windows frown

So i guess im gonna have to get my drill out!

How many holes? 4 evenly spaced along the bottom?

Just start with 2, one either side and see how you get on. That fixed it for me. As for going with LP640 rear clusters, It would loose the originality of the car. Personal preference I guess.

The way allot of light units work are, Clear cover, then the inside piece, then the backing. If the lense is bonded, then I find it it strange they sell the clear piece separately as it's usually a real pain to try and separate it, usually involves an oven to vs me the lamp till the bond softens, then you have to carefully pry it apart.

It might not be bonded, I only took the rear grills off to take a look, you need to remove the top panel (bit with spoiler) to get full access. It just looked like it might be bonded. But might just be a black seal. I was following this guide > http://www.safeer.us/?p=239

I wonder if you have to go through this polava to change a bulb??

Hate to say it, but that looks like a sealed unit to me, not they type of thing you want to start trying to split.

Have you a part number to the lens you mentioned?

Funnily enough, drilling holes in them was the original factory service action fix!

Just to update I drilled 3 very small holes at the bottom, that you cannot see. The next day all condensation had gone. Thanks for the suggestions.
