After 16 years of De-Tomaso ownership i have bought my first Lamborghini and looking for advice. The clutch is at about 65% wear, driving it steady, could i get 1000 miles out of it? I live in the North East where is the nearest specialist who could replace the clutch?

Give David at Lamborghini Pangbourne a ring - he'll know.
Is it e or manual?
I've never had an e but my experience of manual Lambos is that, as long as you use the clutch like a switch, they seem to last a long time. If you don't, you get a very particular smell and, as someone once said, it's a very expensive smell.

Congrats on your purchase. You should easily get 1000 miles on 65% wear. 25/30k is easily attainable on a new e-gear clutch just so long as you never reverse it up hills or onto a trailer and try and keep out of constant city driving

Many thanks for the replies, I have contacted Dave Walton who is going to give the car a onceover. SimonSpider many thanks I am surprised at the possible mileage from an E-Gear. I have only heard horror stories about these cars by people who have never owned one! Looking forward to an interesting ownership. The car has only done 8k miles so should be OK for general servicing (I hope). Its also fitted with ceramic brakes so plan to have these checked as I know how expensive they can be. A big step up from a Pantera.

Well done John,, I must say I was not expecting you to go down the route of a Murcielago, waste of time me trying to give you advice on "sensible" alternatives to the Pantera eh
Congrats, you will love it, they are proper old school dinosaurs in the best sense.
Is it Phil's Murci you bought?

Hello Steve,

Its my 52 year itch. It was the Lamborghini or building a GT40, maybe two years of madness then back to car building.

No its not Phil's car. I will send photos when the car arrives in two weeks.

Pulling my LP640 out of winter hibernation this weekend..more than likely going to drive it to Le Mans this year, pity you are not going to make it.

Gents,

Car arrives on 10/05, but insurance company insist on having a tracker fitted. Two tracker companies not sure if they wish to do job as they say it involves removing rear wheel to get to the battery. Any experience appreciated.

John - try Locktons for a quote - they did not insist on a tracker for my Diablo, even though one was already fitted - PM me, and I'll give you more details etc. Hope to see you soon at the Crown and Fastlane Show

Hi john

Congrats on the murcialago - Paul texted me a pic, stunning! Shame the Pantera had to go - it was a great car and a credit to you.

The 4 wheel drive should come in handy for off roading though!

Catch up soon

Pete

Hello Pete, Good to hear from you; I am not afraid to say there was a little tear in my eye when the Pantera finally went, but it was time for a change. I hear the 928 is beautiful, it would be nice to meet up in the summer. John

Hi john

I had to provide access for the tracker to be fitted,
Involves removing the nearside rear wheel and the inner wheel arch,
Not difficult as it's not much more than what you need to do to get to the battery,
Good luck and congrats with the car,
If you need any more info, just mail me
