Has anyone moved from a coupe to a roadster? ... Or had both?
What's the roadster like to live with?
Pro's & Con's Vs Coupe?

I've got a 2012 Coupe which I absolutely adore, but thinking of ordering an SV, but have the Coupe or Roadster dilemma.
I drove a 2015 Roadster at Milbrook (having driven down in my car) and other than the roof off, I couldn't tell that much of a difference between the two. The 2015 felt a little less hard in terms of ride, but otherwise not much to speak of.

Any experiences appreciated.

Great problem to have! I moved from a new 2012 (MY13) Coupe to a MY15 Roadster - and was glad that I did! With the (wrapped) panels on - the car is identical to the coupe - other than you can lower the rear windscreen - which sounds Epic! And without the Roof - you can actually see traffic lights without contorting yourself! And I struggle to see why anyone would buy the coupe when you can have the roadster.

The Coupe is a better driver (more hardcore) - better around a track - better storage (so you can actually use you boot) - so great on a european tour - you can actually get enough for a couple of weeks away with your other half to boot! It's slightly more focused - but I would absolutely recommend ditching the standard wheels for the roadsters - as it transforms the handling.

The Roadster is an 8/10ths - or maybe 9/10ths - car - perfect for touring around with no roof - it looks amazing - it sounds amazing (must have the race/sport exhaust) - and I'm not sure where you go from here! It is a little heavier than the coupe - and extra 50KG's - but it's not an issue (given it's got 691+hp). It's worthwhile getting the panels wrapped in gloss black - as for some reason the factory do not supply it as such - which (in my view) continues the black gloss from the A-pllars through to the B/C pillars - which are all black gloss! Go figure! Be aware that when you take your roof panels off - they pretty much fill the boot - which means you need to arrange for any luggage to be transported to the next destination - no problem if you're on an organised tour - but needs a little planning if you're not. I personally found it at the edge of it's performance envelope around 9/10ths - at 10/10ths - it feels a little uncomfortable - which I'm sure is down to the super firm suspension (which has been softened off in comparison to the coupe) - so the magnetorhological dampers can't come fast enough in my view (I call it the witchcraft button in my speciale) on the SV.

I've ordered both SV's - because I track my cars a lot - and I think the Coupe will be the better of the two on track. I am still getting my head around a Roadster SV - the concept seems a bit wrong to me - but given the improvements with the Coupe - I think the Roadster SV should be pretty special. Will I track the Raodster SV - not sure - but will it ridiculous of the road - you bet.

Feel free to PM if you want a chat about it (I'm in NYC this week)

Anjum - I've always been anti-roadster/convertible etc in "hard-core"cars, as it seems contradictory. However, having had an epic roof-off drive in a 918 in the dark a couple of weeks ago, (so no tanning benefit...), I have become a convert. Full sensory overload!

So, on basis of that one drive, I decided to switch from a tail-end order for a coupe SV to a roadster. I find all road cars are compromised on track, so better to go for maximum road experience. Having said that, I would be concerned if I thought the roadster would be noticeably less exciting or involving to drive

I know that the specs are not finalised for Roadster, but do you expect them to be very close in terms of performance? From your Aventador experience, and from what you know about SV in particular, which would you choose if you could only have one, in SV form, for mostly road driving with very occasional tracking? Cheers

Fantastic car. Thinking of ordering a regular Roadster, but seeing as used prices have now started dropping to £290k for a 2013 car, I think I will wait and see how they pan out over the next 6 months. Any guesses?

Hey ft footsoldier!

918 Spyder - what a car! Truly redefines speed. I'm a huge fan. More so than I thought! It's not a car - it's a time machine! Been very lucky to drive one and been passenger on some very lively drives........love them.....

I completely agree about all road cars being compromised on a track. Period. So on that basis, maximise road experience. As fas as I understand it, the SV Roadster will be identical to the coupe bar some strengthening to the CF tub. So I'm guessing it's +50KG over the coupe. I would expect the performance to be near as damn it identical, especially if you opt for the sports pack/ecu/exhaust remap, much like the Standard roadster.

I hope to be driving a coupe soon, as the only unknown for me is the LDS, which I'm sure is fine on a track, but I want to take mine for a little poodle around town and maybe head out down some country lanes - not at max attack - but at everyday speeds just to see if the dynamic steering actually works - I actually hate it on the Hurracan And cancelled my order - and bought the Speciale instead!

What I would say, is that, when you get it...and you should....take it down to Tuscanny, tour around italy, South of France, monaco etc, and it will all make perfect sense!

I would say the roadster is best of both worlds. With the roof on it is quiet and well sealed. Certainly changed days from the murci roadsters. The noise and driving experience with the roof off certainly tops the coupe experience. Only down side is with the roof off you have the luggage capacity for about 1 shoe, but when it looks and goes like it does then you can let it off!
