I have test driven a Aventador from Pangbourne, for record I did arrive in a M6 Gran Coupe - I didn't ask for a test drive it was offered and I came back next day to do it.

Craig is a top chap, although his 'test drives' are not for the faint of heart as he really does like to 'give it some' and show you what it can do.

That said - I ended up buying a McLaren 650S Spider which although does not have quite the drama/noise of the Aventador but for pure driving thrill and car ability the McLaren is leagues ahead.

650s great cars - but it's not a Lamborghini! When you get one - you'll know what I mean! wink

No as it was a customers SOR. What he did do though was hire one for a day and he loved it so went for it.
Then on reflecion your original post is a bit missleading / naughty

Agreed with Nick above, Craig at Pangbourne is extremely helpful and really cares about looking after customers.

Not really - a test drive was declined - Pangbourne could have had a sale if things went differently last week. Coutts did not decline a test drive but then again it was never asked for as he has already hired out an Aventador for a family wedding this week (killed two birds with one stone kind of thing!).

But you rubbished pangbourne for not allowing a test drive (which is/was a customer SOR) then imply above that Coutts would have done the same but that it was understandable as it was a SOR car.
As a general rule you wont / shouldnt expect a test drive in an SOR car unless that was the final part of the deal.
Anyway, your friend is now no doubt happy with his new toy, thats the important thing.

Buddy it was never made clear to anyone that the car was a SOR car by anyone at the dealership - it was assumed on this forum.

Behave yourself Anjum!

I just came out of a Lambo and the 650S is way more exciting. Granted it doesn't have the Dark Side connotations of the Bull but for foot to the floor insanity it definitely trumps it!

Is that noise or acceleration?

There's no way on this earth a 650 can trump an Aventador, admittedly the 650 is a better car in every way but for pure theatre it's not even close! Oh and the noise.

Awaits response from you know who!

What's the point of a standard 30 min type test drive in a car of this nature? It's not a Golf where u r trying to decide if you want DSG or not, for example. Its size and stature would make a first drive an intimidating experience. Instead, read all the reviews from the time, and go see the car in person. Do you fit? Does the seat give you backache? Can you stow your weekend luggage? Do you like the colour?

A better experience (assuming the purpose would be to experience some of the performance, ride quality etc on offer) would be to be driven in it by the dealer.

The third alternative, practised by McLaren, Porsche etc is to attend one of their experience centres / days driving their cars under their instruction in a relatively safe environment.

You sit differently when driving to stationary. Useful to make sure you are comfy enough when driving - e.g. fit in seat correctly, head doesn't hit the ceiling (especially in a Lamborghini!), and gives you a taste of the noise and feel driving down the street. Definitely helpful I would say...

Certainly would tell you a lot more than spending 20 minutes looking at a house you are going to drop ££££££s on and maybe live in for 10+ years!!

I knew someone that worked at Lambo and they said they look up your address to see your house and it's value to eliminate time wasters, also checking out the watch is a classic way of sussing out a genuine client.
Sorry mate, that is utter bks.

I've never worn a watch in my life and I've pulled up at dealers completely cold and been offered test drives in all sorts of exotica, including Lambo.

Only time I've ever encountered a snotty 'look you up and down' attitude was from a flash young wker at a BMW dealer who told me "You're joking mate, M3's sell themselves" when I asked for a bit of room on a cash purchase for a new car. I went to another dealer the next town over and got £1800 off exactly the same car!

It's funny but I have the exact same experience as you have had. I have two merc dealers local to me and I always try and buy a car from them when something tickles by fancy but they get stroppy when try to negociate on price. I then go to a different garage and get exactly what I want. Needless to say everytime they fail to get my business.

Your having a laugh - the 650S is faster in a straight line (just search on YouTube for many videos of the 650S on drag beating it) around corners the 650S makes mincemeat of it - apart from weighing considerably less its brake cornering and general setup is far more sophisticated than the Lamborghini. 4wd is great for traction on the road, but it's just a hinderance in weight, no race car is 4wd for good reason.

Slicker drive train, faster gearbox, and more advanced suspension - more do you you want?

Br_d - I hear you. I'm not saying that 650's aren't good cars - they're great in fact as I believe I've stated on many occasions - and yes, dynamically, better, particularly in the Gearbox department. And it's like driving an iPad - a very cool design inside and out! Driving an Aventador is a different proposition, as Sone says earlier. And boy do you feel special! A Gallardo is not in the same ballpark In my opinion.....V12 v V10 Lambo's......very different animals...

Not that this in anyway relevant - take a quick look at Nurburgring fastest laps.....Aventador is 7:25 and the McL 650s is 7:35, which incidentally is the same time as a MB AMG GT-S.

We can all make out own minds up, but I know what I think is more exciting.....!

I'm with Anjum here. 650 is a missile and most from an R8 up are fast enough on a public road, but the V12 Lambos bring the theatre to every trip.

Like I said Theatre, the Aventador is a bit of a dog at low speed!, park the two next to each other and the 650 will go unnoticed.
That's what more I want!

No stress mate I know exactly what you mean!

I do love the Mac but I considered an Aventador when I was shopping, in fact I deliberately didn't take one out because I might have fallen hopelessly in love!

I do think the 650S Spider is a better car overall (especially as I like to do long euro trips) but christ the Lambo can stop your heart from 500 yards away.

I feel pretty much the same when I see a Huracan as it happens, I just felt the Mac was the better car for my needs.

I think there are few of us that do the odd Euro tour or two and several track days! Let's discuss over a beer and see what pans out! smile
