@845ste this is the quicksilver exhaust. Very loud, great at high revs, but i don't like the idle sound. I have this on my car. same set up as yours.

SydneySE & 845ste.

Have you both removed your heat shields with your systems?

Just wondered what the general opinion is about changing the manufacturers standard box (giant sideboard) and also leaving the heat shield off?

Thx

I've retained the heat shield- highly recommend you do to. I'm going one step further and ceramic coating all pipes (including manifold and cats) with Zircotec:

http://www.zircotec.com/page/-_performance_colours...

In central London traffic the oil temp hits 125C; this is usually only seen on a track day for most cars- the reason is the huge heat sink in the engine bay from the exhaust manifolds and cats. The heat from the exhaust box causes corrosion of the frame (as you've noted from your mechanic's assessment of the car you bought). So I'm coating the exhaust as well.

I've just bought a larini box for a LP670 and replacing the quicksilver (i don't like the sound of the quicksilver as there is no crossover), and although the larini comes all shiny polished stainless, i'm ceramic coating it.

Most of the damage to wiring, hoses etc in the engine bay, as well as the corrosion of the pipes due to paint peeling of, is down to heat from the exhaust components.

After spending time with rust converter and paint, as well as replacing every rubber hose (and a number of electrical connections) I'm aiming to reduce heat....

my only 21.000km.
I have no problem with the heat in northern italy.
I left his original coating: why remove it ???
the chassis and the electrical wiring, etc. is intact.
in the city do not use it in the summer and even if it rains ....
I always isolated roads and sliding smile

So is your heat-shield on or off? 845ste (I'm likely to leave the new Larini system/Cats in their original polished stainless steel)

I don't know about that. I think you have a cooling system problem. Either a weak or non-working fan. Or something wrong with your radiators.

I would get that check out.
