Storing a 92 Diablo
Discussion
So chaps thanks for all of the information. I also spoke to an old Italian Lamborghini mechanic over in Tuscany a few weeks ago, he pretty much said what we all knew. They're old cars so don't red line them, let the engine oil warm up properly, especially in the UK, where our temperatures are lower.
He said the way I am driving it is ideal, just leisurely cruising around, he made a good point, "the engine gets lubricated and kept supple at low cruising speeds exactly as it does at high speeds and super quick accelerations without risking something going BANG".
I wonder how long before someone says "Aye! aaah come you got de car den if you aint gonna drive it propah? I drive my Halfords car really fast I'm lucky"

Some good advice above, you must get the engine up to temp and run once a month. These cars do not sit unused well. I have an early 90 Diablo with low miles too, that gets used for 6 months of the year , even if my other cars mean it gets a Cotswolds run out not a big euro voyage. But get the engine fluids hot and circulating.
Very old style the early cars, and a real beast.
Yes agreed Skylab, if they sit around they are doomed.Very old style the early cars, and a real beast.

I'm in the same place as your. I have a 1993 car that has hot been driven in about a year or more. I took very I'll and don't think it will every be driven again. It's always been storaged in a heated garage. So I think ill just sell up. I have lost allot of strength in my leags and you need allot of power thear
Sorry to hear that Sudesh. Please pm me when you decide to sell.Basically any car needs to be driven regularly. Nothing special about Diablo in this respect. I would far rather buy a 25 year old Diablo with 50,000 miles on it and a solid service history than a garage queen with 5000 miles on it. Sadly, most are garage queens = loads of trouble if you buy it and start using it regularly. Lots of bits will complain about being asked to work again!

..I was going to store my car at a storage garage that will remain nameless (for now as I have another non running car still there), but I returned after only one week as I happened to be in the area and the car had done 6 miles.......
This would've made me livid and I'd have said something.....It should be very clear about what they can and can't do with the car in the name of 'exercising it' if indeed that was what they'd done. As covered by others, 6 miles could do more harm than good as it will unlikely be up to temp.I have one vehicle in storage and the storage owner didn't want and doesn't have a key. Storage facilities shouldn't see their clients cars as a pool of cars they can dip into.

did you tell him all your journeys are 1.5 or 4 miles long? surely thats the worst thing you could do! would imagine it takes 20 miles to warm everything properly and then you should do another 20+ to give it a proper runHe said the way I am driving it is ideal
seems a shame you are not using the whole rev range too

Agreed Mike, I kind of wish I had said something, but then I'm also glad I didn't in case the conversation went wrong. I have one vehicle in storage and the storage owner didn't want and doesn't have a key. Storage facilities shouldn't see their clients cars as a pool of cars they can dip into.

I warm the car up first., I let it run to temperature for 10 minutes before moving it. It's not a shame I'm not using the whole rev range, the whole rev range would be the worst thing you could possibly do, it has a massive high rev range which would stress the engine unnecessarily. seems a shame you are not using the whole rev range too
I use the whole rev range on modern cars.

Oh dear. This is becoming sad. When you warm up a car you give the oil time to get warm, so when you actually move off the oil moves freely around the engine components.
