So I’m trying to set a long term goal, of owning a big lambo. Realistically this is a goal that will take a few years further saving, with my thoughts on an Aventador, simply because I feel the increased oversight of Audi would make it a bit more reliable (all relative I know). Realistically I would be looking at one of the early reasonable mileage examples. (So I appreciate the niggles on those early cars)

First of all, am I mad? Is this a wise choice to aspire too or should I be considering something a bit more sensible like a Hurracan?

I have always maintained my own vehicles, however by noticing a lack of posts around that topic in the forum is this something owners do? Or is the car simply too exotic to attempt?

Anyway, I’d like to hear what you all think, so support me, ridicule me or change my mind, make alternative suggestions ...... I’m all ears.

I'm in the same boat as to looking to get an aventador but first need to sell my LP560.From my research,,stay away from 2011 2012 cars as they might have gearbox problems. You need to get a 2013 car as it doesn't have gearbox issues and the suspension is softer i believe and new software.2013 cars are still at 200k mark for decent mileage so a bit more expensive than earlier cars.I feel that 2011 2012 cars will get to around 150k mark in about 1 year so 2013 cars should also come down in price.Maintainance is expensive on big lambo and i'm sure no one will consider an aventador that had home maintainance..so you need to factor that in! The big service is $4500 every 2 years.
So if you want the look, the drama, the sound, the v12,the 8mpg then yes i'm sure it's all worth it!
If you want a very reliable supercar and not very expensive to run and maintain then huracan is the best choice.
I make stupid decisions so i'll go for the aventadorbiggrin

Yes Aventador 2013+
Or you could try an early Diablo?
Much less to go wrong. No abs, no traction control, no power steering, no flappy paddle gear box. But still an event.

Or look up Delmar on the Murci page and be inspired!

Or a late Diablo. Some Audi refinements made it into the later models. Thats where I'd be tempted to go if I had the necessary wedge.

Took me 21 years to get my first V12 Italian supercar, and another 6 to get my 99 Diablo SV. So think I'm qualified to comment.

There relatively easy to work on, if you don't mind losing some skin - weren't designed that well for taking apart.

The engine I wouldn't touch myself - gets serviced at a specialist, but I've certainly done brakes, ABS sensors, various electric fault finding, AirPressure sensors, O2 sensors myself.
Parts price can be crazy, but if you know where to look, a lot can be bought cheaper.

You only live once..

Aspire you must .
If you don’t dream you will definitely not get .

I was immediately besotted on seeing photos of the first Countach prototype from the 1971 Geneva Motor Show
I wanted one .

My first job , which I got in 1985 , was arguably the most prestigious junior medical post in the UK ..... House Surgeon in the Surgical Professorial Unit at the University of Cambridge .... under Sir Roy Calne who performed the first liver transplant .

I was paid £600 a month for working , and I do mean real grafting , 32 in every 48 hours .
The cost of a Countach in 1985 was about £56,000.

By 1988 , I was earning the princely sum of just under a £1000 a month .
The price of a Countach had however risen to about £88,000 by then .
This was also when the 1980s supercar bubble was at its height , and the owner of chassis 12399 turned down more than one offer of over a quarter of a million for a 6 month old car

What crazy money for a car ?!
Espcially when you think just how difficult it is to honestly earn £1 .
( And it is that first £1 that is the most difficult to earn honestly )
Surely an unattainable goal .

But aspirations can become reality .
So keep dreaming , and working

Aventador owners will be better able to inform you of the day to day practicalities of running one of these V12 monsters .

Best of luck
