Hi all can anyone recommend a mobile ferrari pre purchase inspection service for a 2001 360 Spider? The car is based in South Yorkshire

Ask the owner to take it to his local Ferrari dealer or specialist?

Which car is it if its advertised online?

Not advertised its by negotiation and the selling agent is a Ferrari specialist but the car has no warranty implied or given as its a customers car who does not live locally but places it in storage with them

Well there must be a Ferrari dealership reasonably local?

Alternatively as its at a Specialist request they inspect it with you present and be sure to check the items in this list:

I bought my 458 like this, but I had the owner take it to the nearest main dealer and pay for a Ferrari inspection.

I would not buy it unless you do this.

That's over double the price of mine. The specialist is very well known and respected in Ferrari circles and puts his word to the car. I realise that's not perfect but it might be as Good as it gets. When I asked them to inspect it he thought I was mad as they've had the car for 3 years in storage bought out only for servicing then returned to slumber

I thought cars sitting idle for years wasn’t a good idea? Seals aren’t lubricated etc. so can leak for example?

Personally, I’d insist on an inspection especially if they’re fighting having one but that might be my attitude to risk.

Completely agree. An inspection will only cost a few hundreds of pounds - money extremely well spent. You only have to look at that JayEmm video to see what happens when you don't fully inspect a car!

Sat in storage for 3 years will often mean there could be a long list of issues - you won't regret having it inspected, but you will regret it if you don't and then you have problems.

I’d say anyone buying a 360 to own and drive to enjoy you should be looking at cars with 30-60k miles, anything sub 20k for me has not been driven enough or could just be clocked. I’d rather a car that has done at least 1000-2000 miles per year with regular use or more rather than a car that’s sat for several years only doing a few hundred miles.

A car is designed to be used they are not designed to sit still !!

I bought mine from a specialist Barrie without an inspection. They provided a list of all the items they recommended doing before sale if I paid the full sale price. It was a customer car too.

The fact I said to them “nah, don’t bother with those items I’ll sort them, I’ll give ya one price, and one price
only as is, old owt ya and” is a different matter.

They should be able to give you a genuine report on the car they’ve done themselves. If your confident in them that should be enough. As much fun as they are they’re 20 year old cars, so they will have niggles and areas of work that need doing, as long as they’re being transparent around those items it’s not an issue.

Number one thing you need to check (with your own eye balls) is whether it has more than one working key fob, or the pin for the car..or you’ll be doing this hehe





Have they pulled the boots back on the rack, to see whether there is any fluid in them. Moving a car in storage around unpowered can put strain on the end seals apparently, and you’ll end up here. Don’t look at the price of a new rack.





Any questions ask away. I’m getting fairly familiar with these now.

Fantastic write up, I won't ask a rack price I can only imagine!! Good news is it has 3 fobs!

it had aftermarket they whipped it off and put a standard one back on. Not sure as to why, maybe yo sell on or maybe it was loud etc

It’ll be because the exhaust second hand will still make decent money.. a new capristo sound 3 is about 6k.

If they’ve charged the owner 2 or 3 hours labour to remove and refit, he’ll still have about £1500 back on it, when selling second hand.

To be honest I prefer the standard sound as don't want to wake 4 houses down everytime I start it, but yes you're likely right on that

I thought it was like that due to lack of working key fobs? But naturally I want to avoid hidden pitfalls if possible

Nothing to do with inspection.. needed to recover the pin from the immobiliser as I didn’t have the pin or the master fob, and I needed to get another fob programmed..
