Well I know Frank Willaims was involved with De Tomaso in the early seventies in F2 and it does seem to ring a bell or two. Actually Dallara was also involved in the project which links neatly back to Lamborghini again. How about this for the odd shoot or trip to Waitrose?

I remembered the Mini when in La Palma a week or two ago. I saw one involved in a bit of traffic light grand prix work, so much nicer than a Saxo or Nova.

Off to bed to revise with the De Tomaso Automobiles book, I'm sure Mrs Vario will be delighted with me

As am I.

My mind will be occupied with this car, which I stumbled upon:

www.vsoc.nl

Click on "collection" on the top bar, then on Fiat.

We've had the Facel Vega HK500, but no mention of the glorious Facel II.

Oh, and I met the chairman of the Facel Vega Owners' Club to get a car for my wedding. You can't get 'em from the Yellow Pages!

Wanted one from the age of 12!

What a cracking thread. As someone said many pages ago, no chavs, politics, Iraq or people going on about emigrating.

Just gratuitous pictures of brightly painted exotica that most people wouldn't have the faintest idea about.

I've always had a desire for a Merak or a Bora. It's funny, I only really remember things like the Espada from books and Top Trumps when I was really small and you almost think they never really existed, because they were so outrageous and it was so long ago, so thanks for reminding me chaps.

Oh and the headlight louvres on the Montreal are some of the most inspired design touches ever.

Edited to say: Another Facel Vega - fantastic! One of these resides in my 'dream' garage. Had to explain to a few people at work what they were a few weeks ago - blank looks soon replaced by nods of appreciation...

Further edit to say: Zeroshift, I'm sure I know a couple of people who used to work with you: Russ Redwood sits right behind me at work, so perhaps you could pop round one day in your Espada and, well, rev it in the car park a couple of times...

Another personal fave, the Gordon Keeble GK1, built in Southampton, with a 5.3 Chevvy engine and only 99 ever built.

Has a dashboard like a jet fighter!

Morning folks, welcome back to chav chat free zone. You’ve beaten me to the Facel, it was going to be today’s opening gambit, how could you fail to fall in love with a car which has a push button gear box I ask?

I do think the new Quatroporte is a truly beautiful car and would fit perfectly into this thread in 20 or so years time. However………………….

One of the aspects of car design from Italy that has so impressed me over the years is that they are so brave.

Stuff like this gets built, even though it is apparent that the designers must have been smoking something at the time. Outrageous.

The Alfa Bat 7:

Some of this bravery needs to be regained. Recent Fiats for example, show that when the Italians lose their love to experiment with styling, they lose sales.

If only Fiat still made the Dino !!

The Gamma is a love closely related to my childhood. Boxer 4 2.5 liter. These Italian 60s and 70s beauties made the carlover I am today.

Dino spyder. Uncle had a dark yellow one.

Glorious! Must find an older one to post . . .

I’m sure the personal steer of the mighty Bob Wallace would make a tasty addition to any collection; I give you the Urraco ‘Bob’

A shame there is only one to go round and to the best of my memory the factory in their infinite wisdom had it round the back of the shed and full of chickens. Lucky old chickens hey!

Talking of Bob Wallace, Lamborghini test driver and racing guru, he is also responsible for the Miura Jota.

Only one officially made, but apparently the factory made some replicas to please eager owners..

To think that something so Italian, could come from a bloke called Bob.

I have to admit to being extremely ill-educated when it comes to the more obscure Italian exotica, so this has been a fascinating eye-opener!
The thread's original car, the Miura, along with the A-M DB4 Zagato, DB5 and Mk1 Jag E-type Roadster are probably my favourite "old" cars of all time, but some of the other examples here are quite fantastic.
More! More!

The Alfa Romeo Stradale 33.2, from 1967.

Designed by Scaglione. Only 18 exist.

I think we have forgotten what stunning design was coming out of Italy in the 60's.

The new designers have a lot to live up to. If only stuff like this Alfa was made in larger numbers !

Miura Jota, as I mentioned earlier, is top notch 440 / 8500

Another nicely painted Pantera '74.

I don't think the Maserati Sebring's had a mention yet - what a classy looking car that is. Could someone do the decent thing and post a picture as I can't remember how
