Serenissima had a proper full race 3 litre V8 I think..was probably good for around 350/400bhp. The engine was certainly (unsuccessfully) used in F1.
How about the ATS for another bit of esoteric italian exotica?
"he engine and transmission were designed by Alberto Massimino, the former being a 90deg V8 of 2996cc with around 300bhp, the latter a five-speed unit mounted together with the differential. The first car, a coupe designed by Francesco Salomone and built by Gran Sport of Modena, emerged towards the end of 1964. This underwent tests whilst a second car, this time an open-topped version built by Fantuzzi of Modena, was prepared. This car also had the engine capacity increased to 3495cc, giving around 340bhp. This engine was then later transplanted into the original prototype."
"Alongside these cars the company dabbled with Formula 1 cars, using chassis' from McLaren and Lola and undertook the development of another V8, this time designed by Jaguar and with three valves per cylinder. This engine was used in a new single seat closed-body sports car which was built by Sport Car of Modena in 1969"
"The Tipo 167 engine was developed by Serenissima for use in racing. It was a 90° V8 unit with four camshafts, three valves per cylinder, transistor ignition and dry sump lubrication. The total weight of the engine was 140kg. The total capacity was 2997cc (91.5x57mm) and it had a compression ratio of 12.2:1.
The power output was 380bhp @ 8,000rpm and the maximum torque 34.8 mkg @ 6,800rpm. "
My first posting of one of these went by unnoticed amidst more illustrious company. Consider that back in 1973 they were good for a genuine 180 mph with looks which can be best described as appropriate. The Monteverdi Hai SS truly was one of the first of the new breed of super cars
Of course back in good old blighty we Brits were also cobbling together our own true super car, arguably the first since the XK SS. Folks, the mighty ‘Bulldog’, to those who can’t remember, it is fact and Aston which had a turbo charged version of the venerable V8
Imagine my delight a few years ago when I rolled into the forecourt of a well known Aston specialist in South Norfolk and one of the two (I think it was 2) Bulldogs was in the showroom, in a word Wow, in two, fk me !

Amonst the more modern stuff (no less impressive IMHO) are some truly fantastic shots of the kind of cars I think you may enjoy.
I for example like this shot...

All - this is a superb thread. Slightly O/T but one cannot mention Sbarro without referring to this wee beastie, surely the epiotme of Chav nirvana. The Sbarro Golf turbo. Apparently, for the truly demented, the 'standard' 911 3.3 turbo could be upgraded to the Ferrari flat 12 from the 512BB. An absolutely barking bit of kit.
Just to prove they could produce conversions that were more rational, they subsequently came up with this for the family man. A sadly neglected niche, I feel - the MPV spyder!

More Alfa Stradale 33...
sexy sexy sexy!!
oh, and thank you all for the stunning pics!! this is great stuff!

I guess that in the Carrozzeria days those guys lived for design and detail. In mass production 2004 less is more . . . less detail that is.
Peugeot has nice lettering these days. And the ol' Alfa badger does the trick. It has grown and I want a 147 2.0 as a follow up for the fekking Golfer. Just for the badge . . . Most is utter crap that I like to design over. But hey, industry don't care . . . Chrysler has a nice retro metal sticker. US brands are pretty OK but the cars mmmm . . .
Well lets see some more nice metal letters. This is some nice stuff.
