April 1990 - the well known lp400 which we went to look at with a view to buying 6 or 7 years ago. CYC31C is currently being restored and resprayed Tahiti blue.

I would be interested to know more about this car if anyone has any information? I have found a photo album of it from a previous owner.

Not sure if we are talking about the same LP400 but if it is it belonged to Mike Lake reg no LGF 849N , The photo is so small i can't read the

plate with my not so good eye sight even with glass's . If so he would turn up at Mike Pullen 's Carrera Sport track

days back in the 90's in either the Countach or his Daytona, also he had a 308 GTB and a Integrale as a daily driver, Mike made a rather good living out of

dealing in comics and he's still on Face Book .Believe he has opened the first science fiction and comic shop in Soho,

Last time i saw the LP 400 it was blue with tan interior probably at Goodwood or Castle Coombe, He did have a accident at Brands though but nothing to

serious. On visiting Mlke Pullen around 6/7 years ago i just missed the car by 10 minutes after being trailered away

by the owner after Mike had done a full restoration including a colour change to what looked like a orange/red and a new black interior.

Did see it advertised by a couple of dealers shortly after that ,one being Simon Furlonger.

Hope this is some help if it is the same car you are referring to.

If we are talking about the blue LP400 then I can confirm some detail here.
I gather it was purchased new by an owner in the north of England.
I was lucky enough to have a passenger ride with Mike Lake (lovely bloke) on a track day at Brands Hatch in the car soon after he purchased it, I think in the very late '80s or early '90s. What a day that was for a car nut in my teens!

From what I've read the car was later sold, painted silver and still resided in London, although I never saw the car in this colour so I can't verify this.

It is indeed now Miura orange with black interior.

Hello Martin ,long time since we spoke , I thought you would come up with more information on Mike Lakes LP400 .

Still laugh about the story you told me about the night Mike pulled a hot girl at a club in London and stopped at her place

to collect her passport and they drove to Rome overnight in his Daytona , I think a lot of us would like to do something crazy like that.

Mike Pullen said he called in the workshop not long ago ,i forgot to ask what he's driving now.

Funny i watched the 1991 Orient Express London to Venice racing Challenge video a few nights ago with Mike Pullen driving his

low body Countach and Mike Lake driving his Daytona . Amazing how young everyone looked especially Mike Pullen with his Mario Bros

moustache. Hope your keeping well.

Hi there.

I keep close tabs on this thread, despite never owning a Countach it's my favourite topic on PH!
I've always been a Countach enthusiast and was on the fringes of the scene back in the good old track day era (in my mid to late teens) so got to know some of the cars and owners a little, particularly Mike Lake, his LP400 and Daytona.
I believe he also owned a Miura, a Fiat Dino Spider and a Fiat 132 Coupe around that time.

The Rome story about Mike and the girl didn't come from me, that was someone else on here. It's a great story, doesn't surprise me, and yes, we'd like to be able to do stuff like that, ha!
I did once hear half a story about Mike with two girls in his Daytona...
He once told me that he would never sell the Daytona, I wonder if he still has it..?

Glad to hear Mr. Lake is still around on the scene, and I hope he's well, he was always very courteous and kind to me as a young car enthusiast.
I've not been around the Ferrari / Lamborghini circles for many years now, sadly.

As a 'saturday boy' working at a local Ferrari specialist I washed Mike Lake's Daytona when it got back from the Orient Express challenge and it was in for a service. I've never seen such a bug-splatted car before or since, he must have been really shifting and for a long time, ha!

I'll have to look up that video again.

I'm good, thank you, hope you are well and enjoying your cars now some finer weather is here!

I do remember something about two girls and the Daytona, not sure if it come from you or not ,they must have been tiny or double jointed laugh

Also remember that he had to hide his cars from his wife or maybe his girlfriend when she caught him out, obviously a bit of a lad.

Apparently when doing his paper round as a boy he would deliver to a house with a Daytona in the driveway, little did he know at the time he would

end up owning the very same car some years later after answering a advert.

With the appearance of being in a heavy metal rock band he did stand out of the usual polo shirt , chinos wearing super car owners,

Was it Roger Collingwood you worked for before they were Kent High Performance, Nice people to deal with ,have bought a couple

of cars from them , Not surprised you haven't had much to do with Ferrari's and Lambo's,things have changed so much ,not just prices

but meeting and a different generation and not much excites me now on this forum unless it's the older cars , Not wanting to sound like a old fart but nothing

comes close to the Mike Pullens Carrara Sport track days and the characters that owned the cars and didn't take themselves to seriously.

All the best.

I think it was one of the technicians at Kent High Performance Cars told me about the girls and the Daytona.
Yeah, it must have been a bit of a tight squeeze, but quite a nice one, haha!

I do recall him saying that when he got divorced he had cars in garages around London that his wife didn't know about...

I remember reading that about his paper round and ending up owning the very Daytona he regularly saw. Nice story, and fair play to him!
Yes, he did look like a rock star. As a long-haired rock fan myself I liked that about him too, he was very down to earth and seemed to have time for anyone.

It was Roger Collingwood I worked for, both as a saturday boy in my teens and then later on in full time employment in my twenties.
He is an extremely knowledgeable and talented guy, and quite a driver, and I'm not going to knock him in any way, but it just didn't work out for me as an employee at the time. Shame really, I sometimes wish I'd stuck with it.
That's where I got to know Simon Furlonger, and I still have regular-ish contact with him. He and his team are really nice guys and proper enthusiasts of all kinds of cars.

I get what you mean. The 'scene', as it was back then, seemed a lot more fun and exciting in the 1990s.
Those days will never be repeated.
Fond memories.

Simon's one of the good guys ,always helpful and always did what he said he was going to ,

He delivered one of my cars to the doorstep when working as a salesman for Roger and even took a cheque from me ,

can't imagine that happening today with all the tow rags around.

Bought a lot of parts from Rogers racing 308 GTB as and when he upgraded and are still on my GTB today,

There was a similar long haired rock star esque style guy that turned up in a black countach with some sort of 5EXY plate IIRC (possibly 50 5EXY) to a Brooklands auto-Italia meet and mini hill climb thing about 20 years ago now I attended.

Think that was the black Anniversary car , there was a article on it in one of the club magazines written by the owner

who i think from memory came from Chiswick,

There was a white LP 500 S or QV ,can't remember now which , had a 15 EXY plate , remember him spinning it at Castle Coombe ,

The driver said later that the car was in storage and he forgot to check the tyre pressures, rolleyes

Does anyone have any knowledge or details for a lower spoiler (where a modern day diffuser would sit)? Was this an option or just some experimental aerodymanics? Was it in period? I will try nd hunt out a picture.
