Just to try and clear up the 88.5 information here is what Joe Sackey had to say on the matter…..
"The USA dealers selling them as new cars (Irv David, Tony Carlini, Frank Kerbeck et al) came up with the "88.5" moniker or nickname to differentiate these factory side-skirted cars from the earlier QVs".
"In Europe & England for example, Mike Perry & his staff simply referred to them when new as Side-skirted Countachs. When they were new, it was only the USA dealers that referred to them as 88.5, so the USA dealers who created this nickname are responsible for it. Over the years, everyone, dealers & enthusiasts alike, began referring to them as 88.5 simply as a means by which that variant is identified, and that "88.5" reference stuck".
"For clarification purposes, as far as Lamborghini SpA is concerned, these side-skirted Countachs were simply referred to as a late 1987 or early 1988 car etc accordingly. For the particular amongst us, the 88.5 designation is not an official one with Lamborghini SpA, and it does not exist anywhere on any official literature, ID plates etc".
"All this is just clarification, not a slam against the variant".
And then, in answer to the following question….
"When they started adding the skirts, did all cars get them? Or was it optional"?
Joe said….
"They all did, from the fall of 1987 to the summer of 1988 when 25th Anniversario production took over. Its always possible a person requested the car without, but all the cars that came down the line & were pictured at the factory had them. So too, all the new ones I encountered in the period, plus since".

Portman imported 14 RHD into the UK. That's what I was told back in the day.
What about other RHD markets ?
TBH I don't know the answer but I have heard a number of times that there were only 14 RHD 88 1/2/ in the world. What about other RHD markets ?

Managed to find the old number plates ...... the number was eventually removed which took some time as there was a clerical error with dvla on import into the UK which delayed the number being transferred .....Cheers

well, well, well....5555DP=Denise Pearson from the band 5star. She and her brother Delroy (his plate was 326DEL) had several Countachs. The black car your Dad owned was new to Denise, then advertised in Supercar Classics and sold by Portman with about 800 miles on the clock.
At some point in its life it went to Guernsey...and Orpington in Kent for many years.
Allegedly, at one point this car was given in settlement as part of a debt: allegedly some speculators bought several Ferrari F40s from a US Ferrari dealership, paid the deposits in cash, and the salesman at the Ferrari dealership did a runner with the money, never to be seen again. The dealership knew nothing of it, so couldn't honour the orders or refund the deposits, so this Countach was taken as part payment for the deposit on some F40s.
Would love to see any photos you have of the car - the other black one has been very widely shown and photographed - the one your Dad has been hidden away in comparison!
