Yes I remember reading that article by Mel Nichols in Car magazine (I think) when it was originally printed, and particularly remember reading about the poor old Jaguar XJS driver being overtaken whilst driving flat out at 155mph by not only one Lamborghini, but three of them in succession, how embarrassing for him!Am sure I still have that 'Car' magazine somewhere, because back in the 1970s and 1980s the quality of 'Car' in those days was so much better than 'Motor' or 'Autocar', was just a brilliant read for a young petrol-head before all this nanny state safety camera parasitic tax revenue funded nonsense reared its ugly head.
You get a suprising amount of yuk on your forehead........
The engine let go subsequently, so fun but expensive.

Tom Hartley has a Jalpa up for £110k................!?!
I'll be watching that with some interest. It is a good example but that's a major step above where I've been estimating mine. I imagine the point is that 308s are changing hands at around or above that mark and so a rarer car must at least be comparable. We'll see what the market thinks.fyfe said:

Rarer doesn't always mean more valuable.

When I got my car (1987) I got it because it was c.60% of the price of a 308 and I couldn't afford a 308.

I agree, I'm just thinking that that may be the angle Tom will be taking with it - 1 of 35, a fraction of the production run of the 308s etc. I suspect he'll get damn near the asking price too - he normally does. That ratio may still hold today?? Rarer doesn't always mean more valuable.
Now, as for that orange Urraco P250 he's also got - wow. That interior is just awesome.

This is 12068 the car that made £74.3K including buyers premium at Bonhams Goodwood sale on 21st March....
If i remember correctly, guide price was about 1/2 of what it achieved.I'm sure previous owner was delighted it made twice estimate, but how do they now feel seeing it for sale at around 3x estimate?
50% increase in 6x months - WOW!....... or has the car had considerable expenditure/work done since?

Can I also make a further comment that although Ferrari always seemed to manufacture better finished cars than Lamborghini in the 1980s, I always thought Ferrari were too well finished and almost mass produced on a scale similar to that envisaged by Ford. Lamborghini on the other hand have always felt hand made with a rougher edge to them.
As for Lamborghini classic car values, well a Countach valued at £35,000 in 2003 is now worth approximately £1000,000 which demonstrates quite clearly that the buyers are finally realising the values of proper hand-built cars from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Given the choice between buying a Ferrari 308 and a Lamborghini Silhouette my accountant would pick the 308 for future values, whilst my heart would pick the Silhouette for the pure wow factor and because I would intend to drive and enjoy it

Turn up at a classic car event and they'll be a load of 308/328s. Turn up in a Lamborghini Silhouette/Jalpa and most won't know what it is let alone have even seen one before. The market likes rarity, but not obscurity.
A quick look will learn: a V8 Lamborghini is worth more than a V8 Ferrari.Perhaps the most famous production Urraco is for sale in Australia! The owner was not aware of its illustrious past until recently.
