Bob- looks like an Intermeccanica.

Is it the Indra model?

Franco Scaglione designed the 350GTV.

Hint of Monteverdi 375 around the door line. Agree with last poster as an "Intermeccanica Indra" - rare bird indeed!

Really great tread btw, very enjoyable read - thanks to all who have posted so far much appreciate the historical insight.

Correct first time. An Intermeccanica Indra. Designed by Scaglione. Produced in Turin Italy.

The Indra Spider was first shown at the 1971 Geneva motor show. There were apparently 60 x convertibles and 40 x 2 seaters produced.

At the New York motor show in 1973 the 2+2 as shown here, was launched. This is one of only of 27 built.

The founder of Intermeccanica, Frank Reisner, was in dispute with General Motors over the supply of engines. Then the fuel crisis hit which sent several car manufacturers scrambling to keep alive. As a result Intermeccanica closed its factory in December 1974. Which was a great pity because the Indra was actually a very nice car and had great potential.

As an ironic side note. Franco Scaglione who had designed many great cars for Alfa Romeo and Porsche, amongst many others , had invested his own money in the Indra. When the company collapsed Reisner moved to California and Scaglione became disillusioned. He retired from designing cars. The Indra was his last offering.

What a wonderful thread! It's funny how many of the cars/'plates I recognise from my youth. I used to see the black Countach "A6GRO" around Sussex and the F40 "E274 BGT" still graces the dust cover of one of the books on my bookshelves. I'm pretty sure I also remember the red Countach "F924 OYR".

I'll see if I can drag out and digitize some of my photos from visiting Carrera Sports and the like when I was a child. Happy memories. smile
Carrera Sport photos are fab, but rare. Would be very interested to see any you have! Tend to be a real treasure trove

The last time I saw two similar cars side by side was at Rogers showroom in Whyteleafe where he had Lamborghini and a Citroen agency. A 2CV and a Countach together makes for an interesting photograph!
Where was the showroom in Whyteleafe, and when did it close?

I grew up just up the road and I have no recollection of it. confused

The showroom was on the Godstone Road opposite the Whyteleafe Tavern.

The location was where the red brick building is in the background, now a block of residential flats.

There was originally a petrol station on this site with the showrooms and workshops above.
I am still trying to locate a photo of the garage. I believe it closed mid 1980's.

The Tavern was run by George Hedges. When it opened at 6pm the garage staff would adjourn there for a tipple or two!

thumbup I know exactly where that is and would have passed close by on my way to school from the late 70's to early 80's. I don;t remember the showrooms though - clearly I'm getting old. wink

What a great read. Was there more of a reaction from your gf after that? or was that the end?
I agree a great story.
I am waiting for the current owner of TGC55M to make themselves known. This was the Lamborghini Espada demonstrator from 1973. originally Yellow but last seen in 2012 when painted blue.
This car was tested by several British Airways and Pan American trolly dollies!

Hi

I was wondering which Miura Bob posted in the Lambo UK 1969 shot?

It is a white RHD Miura P400 registered WGC526G - see below.

"G" means the car was registered between 1st August 1968 and 31st July 1969.

Which car is this?

I have also posted a photo of an orange Miura P400 in LHD that I saw at Silverstone in the Summer of 1991 - this car is WGC527G. Can't be a coincidence - which car is this too?

There is a work in progress that hopefully will be published later this year. It will be mainly about the early days of Lamborghini in the Uk and the people involved. It does embrace the personalities and other desireable cars of the 60's and 70's. This includes Nick and the people he was associated with.

I am attending a meeting regards this project in September. What I have seen so far is fascinating and should make a good read!
More info when i get it!

If I recall correctly the showroom was on first floor level so not obvious to a pedestrian passer by. You had to go up a small service road to the side and in via the back. I went round there once in about 1977/78 and there was a wrecked Countach LP400 under a cover that had been written off on the motorway.

The car was specially made by lambo for someone, can't remember who though! The gold plaque said the guys name (will see if my dad can remember) also from memory the interiors was slightly different to normal and was all triple stitched

It's always good seeing pictures of the old carrera sport test days

Wow, what a turn up! Not a rental then?

What did the gold plaque on the glove box say? Was always curious of that.

Hope you liked seeing the photos again.

Cheers

Sorry for the delay - the gold plaque said Albert Sivera, the car was built special by Lambo for him

This thread is fantastic and I keep going back to earlier posts to check out the photos .

I do cringe when I see the big ugly 80s speakers on the blue LP400 door aperture on page 1, I think it is, but we have all been guilty of such barbarism in earlier days I am sure.

Incidentally the orange ( blood orange) Albert SIlvera special order Countach has been beautifully restored under the guidance of Joe Sackey some years ago and now resides in Holland with an enthusiast, and was at villa d'este a coupe of years ago. It is a lovely car.

You may already be aware, but the blue LP400 is now orange, and the big speakers are gone. smile

I believe it's the one with Simon Furlonger. As I think I have already said, it's shame what they have done with the interior with its modern matt black leather. Original interiors were much mor shiny.
Much prefer the red one with Cheshire classic cars.

So I was rummaging around in the loft and found some old videos. Having looked through the videos I found an old Top Gear feature with VBH driving a 5000S Countach and Tiff in a Testarossa.

Long story short, I've uploaded it to Youtube.

ps i have also found some old video from a supercar test day too and will get that uploaded too at some point.

I've now also uploaded my own camcorder footage from the 1992 Silverstone Coys Historic festival. Good event this as it was a big Ferrari celebration with some amazing motors including GTOs, LMs, Californias etc.
Also a strong turnout of Lamborghinis.

Enjoy
