Back in the late 80,s I was collecting my car 12747 from Mike Pullen and he had just had a new countach crankshaft arrived for a repair, that customer was a normal security worker who worked and saved to own a Lambo anybody remember this ?
YE that crankshaft could have been for the same owner i spoke to Jim, he was just a normal working guy and i think from memory he'd moved back with his mum after the divorce, maybe this would have been a different repair as don't think 2k would go as far as a new crankshaft even in those days, there was a lot of guys with more passion than money back then including me, on a very early Top Gear they interviewed 3 owners with super cars on a shoe string ,a red 308 gtb and a orange Urraco that was kept in a council lockup a little rusty but roadworthy, can't remember the other car ,perhaps it might be on you tube somewhere, rat rod said:

“Colour coded wheels” - I remember Del Hopkins telling me that the white colour coded wheels on my 5000S were not factory original. He told me that none of the colour coded wheels were.
Took mine back to the original silver.
Did notice that the only colour coded wheels that i've seen have been on white countach's apart from the flesh coloured one so assumed that they are factory painted, if this one was factory painted being such a outrageous request colour wise even by Lamborghini standards maybe they would have gone along with colour coding the wheels at the factory ,i suppose only the first owner will know that or past records, (really think i got to much time on my hands with this lockdown i'm turning into a anorak )Took mine back to the original silver.

If I remember rightly, wasn’t it an Aston V8 in red. I remember he was married and his wife was happy to sacrifice new clothes to find the Aston. Robertos88 said:

Regarding the other car owners I chatted to the guy who owned the orange Urraco quite a few times over the years, seem to think he was a BT engineer but I might be mistaken. Funnily enough I have a feeling this was the first time I had seen a Lamborghini being driven on the road, in those days I had a motorcycle so chased after him towards the M1 motorway and seem to remember being very impressed at the speed it went round the corners near Annesley in Nottinghamshire.
He was a great guy to chat to and always reminded me of Captain Birdseye because he had a beard - apologies if he's reading this!
I remember he took me out for a blast in the Urraco at one of the Carrera Sport test days at Goodwood, only thing was that because there was already a passenger in the front seat he insisted I sat across the back seat of the car rather than in it, when I enquired why he said that he had rolled the car the previous year! Anyway off we went and credit due to the guy he took it steady, though I do remember an awful lot of smoke appearing in the cabin which was somewhat disconcerting, but what the heck I was in a Lamborghini at break-neck speed on a race circuit, OK I might have made that bit up, only to look left as we were overtaken by a Toyota people carrier which appeared to be almost on two wheels. Am pretty sure he had a private reg on the Urraco but can't for the life of me remember the number. Now that I have a bit more spare time will take a look through all my old photos to see if I can find anything. Great days.

Where is Del these days ,was told he moved to either Australia or was it South Africa can't remember now,
He lives in Spain. I spoke to him last week to check he's ok and he is fine.Hi Bob the Cop, loved reading your post. 1NKO is still in existence and owned by the same person that bought it on the white Lambo back in the 1970’s from Roger Phillips. Unfortunately it no longer sits on a Lamborghini! It has been on various other motors from a Lamborghini Espada in various colours, a Lotus Esprit Turbo again in various colours, through to a Ford XR3, XR3i and RS Turbo and now resides sadly now on a Peugeot Coupe (as Dad is now nearly 79 his high performance car days are over) having spoken to Dad he bought the Lambo and plate quite rightly as you remember because at the time he had a printing business so thought it fitted in well with his profession. After he bought the plate Roger Phillips then used 11NKO for marketing and advertising purposes and this is the number that can still be seen in old Supercar books.

Wow, that is a superb story, well done to him for going for it.

Check page 1 of this thread. I saw an orange Urraco at a Lambo club day at Syon Park. It was a bit scruffy and I seem to recall it had a sign in the window welcoming people to have a sit in it.
698R is the registration number.

Have been trawling through the photos I have scanned to no avail, though think there are a load more pics that I didn't think were relevant that probably need scanning in - well I have a bit more time now that everywhere is locked down so might actually get round to doing it!
P.S. Ought to add I took a look at page one for the pic of the Urraco then found myself looking at all the photos again - the red wingless Countach looks gorgeous.
I still have that Top Gear "supercars for commoners" episode on videotape, another one waiting to be digitised. It was one of the few times Andy Wilman presented a TG segment, he came across quite well.
The red 308 was owned by a young joiner with a mullet and very pretty girlfriend. He lived at home with his mum to afford it. I think it had oversized Compomotive alloys at the time and was mint.
The Aston V8 was silver I think and looking a bit rough, and kept the owner, wife and kids looking like they had been outfitted in a charity shop with haircuts by the local council. The clip showed him doing sprints in it then the camera switched to them sitting on a rather threadbare sofa in a small front room. What an inspiration, just what I would do.
The orange Lambo Uracco was the best bit, the owner (Jeff) told how he bought the car for 4 grand, or roughly everything he owned at the time. I spoke to him years later when he was selling the car, it was very rusty but he wasnt asking a fortune for it. He said he was retiring to Thailand with the funds. The car was plate-raped for "698R" and then restored to a high standard after reverting to an N reg.
I think there was also a young guy who had spent 15 grand on a blue Urraco without an engine, and had to live with his parents while he saved up for a new one.
All the above people deserve our respect!
