I always thought it was a cutover car between the early and later LP400s. The body was 3/4" taller than earlier ones but it had the earlier chassis frame. Rather strangely it also only had 40DCOEs and most of the comparative models had 45s. It was still a cracking car. Here is is by Mike's at Castle Coombe.
Oh BTW the issue with the wing was that is was bolted to edge of the bootlid which, over time, sagged under the weight. I had a new steel frame and ali skin made when I took it off as the original was beyond repair.

Lovely to see the two cars together, That's how i remember them back in the day of Goodwood and Castle Coombe .

Firmly embedded in my memory is of 6 Countach's on Sports exhaust's howling down Goodwoods pit straight .

You won't see the likes of that again.

Now you would struggle to be allowed one .

Little did i know then i would end up owning your Countach some years later,

Hello Steve, great to have you on here sharing info about your Countach.
If you haven’t already scrolled through from the start you will see quite a few snaps of it. I loved seeing it each time back in those days at Goodwood or Castle Combe. Always great entertainment seeing you and Mike on track.
Swear I can recall when Mike cut through the chicane to nip in front of you at Goodwood one year.

Please share any more photos you have. Many on here would love to see them.

Thanks
SS
The last time i saw Mike on the rack he was driving a Diablo 6 litre and was at the back of the grid on the parade lap at
Peter Saywell's charity track day at Goodwood with no overtaking allowed so we would leave a gap from the car in front and
boot it for a short distance otherwise it got a little frustrating.

Mike was not content with just overtaking everybody by the second lap he even went past the Goodwood pace car at a rate of Knots .

The marshals were not well pleased and black flagged him but by then we were on the third and final lap.

The marshals couldn't wait to give him a good bking but all he did was shrug his shoulders and grin.

My son got it on video somewhere.

Ha what a brilliant story and one that doesn't surprise me.

Best get your son to upload that video then! Would love to see it.

Oddly, and I have never understood why, but I stopped going to such events from about 1992/3 onwards. Puzzles me to this day.

Cheers

The Carrera Sport days were a hard act to follow, not just the cars but the owners where real characters, said this before but they
didn't take themselves to seriously .

From memory i think it could have been the last one . It was not long before the very first Revival ,

They were getting the track and pit area ready for September as they were turning spectators away as they didn't want people
walking on the freshly seeded grass banks ,That was part of it too, watching big smiles on the spectators faces all day and the owners being accommodating letting excited kids sit in the cars. , such a lovely casual relaxed atmosphere.

It was around then that Lord March gave the council the noise concession to allow for the Rivival to take place.
First time i got black flagged in the GTB for excessive noise , had to short shift for the rest of the day.

Must of been the beginning of the end for Mikes track days as was the nature of the cars.

See what i can do regarding video but don't hold your breath as i'm not a techie person, still typing with one finger. It's a small sequence of a very long video, Shows Mike overtaking coming out of Madgwick coming into Fordwater filmed from the pits.

Probably write a book on Mikes escapades but it will never get printed, they would never believe most of it.

I remember seeing the two cars parked like that at the rear of Castle Combe. They were fantastic events and always well attended.

Andrew Morland's book 'Lamborghini - Supreme amongst Exotics' has some lovely shots of Lambo gatherings at Goodwood in the '80s, it all looks very casual and not too organised....

Sadly my last outing there. Popping on the overrun meant I was deemed to loud.

One of Mikes pranks was to stick a pair of Arab number plates on his car if picking up a customer from Gatwick airport with a red/white tea towel on his head and park in the NO WAITING ZONE he got away many times until the Police showed him a muiti langauage sign telling him in arab if he didn't move in 2 minutes his car would be impounded. .

I went to a few of Mike's trackdays as late as 1996-7. I remember Peter Saywell turned up to one in his Viola SE30 Jota.

Anyone remember when they ended. Lovely informal events, good memories.

Top guy, Mike. He has looked after my car since I got it 7 years ago.
It's just back from a pretty lengthy engine out service.
Truck brought it back to Scotland, with the invoice for payment on the passenger seat - wasn't even mentioned before the car got back to me. Old school.

I think it was 1997 as they were completing the pit area and grass banks for the forthcoming first Rivival in 1998 but can't remember what month ,most were held on bank holidays so maybe May day or Whitsun and August ,

After saying that it could have been 1998 as it was the first time i'd been black flagged by decibel police owing to lower levels to keep the
local council happy to get the planning permission for the official unsilenced racing for the Revival.

Memory not as good as it was so could stand corrected.

I remember the Viola SE30 turning up although didn't know it was Peter Saywells car, Someone said he had only collected the car that morning but i don't know if that was true or not.
