Oh, they’re lovely! If only Castle Combe still did supercar days.

Unfortunately we won't see the like of the Lamborghini / De Tomaso days either at Castle Coombe or Goodwood again or anywhere else for that matter

due to all the nannying noise restrictions now imposed, suppose we were lucky to be part of it back then ,

There are not so many track days now that you can take a full on noisy Super Car these days that your not restricted to short shifting

to avoid being throw off the track finding yourself a spectater for the rest of the day,

Not sure what the other circuits are like but Goodwood marshals at least try to keep you on the track giving at least two warnings

but unlikely to give you a third having the noise monitors around the track that go directly to the local council offices.

Peter Saywell Super Car days are only half as exciting as they could be with one of the monitors being placed as you are just about to

floor it coming out of the chicane for the pit straight but you are half way down the straight before high revs can be used a far cry from seeing

and hearing five Countach's on sports exhausts blasting past the pits hitting the red line in every gear accompanied by the down shifts for

Madgwick corner . Sheer Super Car porn at it's best driving

Yep. Sad times. When I moved to north Wilts I was excited to be able to see British GT and F3 barely ten minutes from my house. They banned them for the following season.

Hi , just looking through some old photos, came across this from a motor show, late 80s I think…

That is from the 1987 motor fair at Earls Court and it is Harry Metcalfe’s (I.e, Harry’s Garage!) car. I’m sure he will be delighted to see this photo.
Any more?

35 years is a long time ago for my memory, but was this even on the Lambo stand? Could be wrong but I seem to remember it on a car stereo stand…what I’m more sure about is it was so busy it was almost impossible to get a full shot of the car as the ropes were so close…standing at the front crouching down was the best chance…At least with my Miranda 35mm compact camera!

Yep 100% the Portman Lamborghini stand. They had a Jalpa and LM002 displayed.
I concur with what you say about the crowds, the photos I took, which I posted early in this thread, are rubbish as it was so difficult to get close. You did well!

One of the NEC shows in the mid/late 1980s the only Countach was on the Alpine stand.
Maybe that’s what you are thinking of?

Thanks for posting ,Portman and Maranello's were my second home both the showrooms and workshops in the 80's and 90's

while in Egham it would have been rude not to pop into Telecrest for a dose of 275's ,Daytona's and 288GTO's.

That is absolutely superb, thank you for sharing!

Some really interesting stuff in there.
I never knew the white Panther Six was once painted blue, for a start.

There is 'That Countach', if you've seen online updates of its ongoing restoration.
Great to see these wonderful cars, some of which I remember seeing/photographing myself back in the day, amongst the 'ordianary' and now mostly extinct cars of the time.

Wouldn't call Mike a close friend but got on with him very well and had a few deals while he was with Portman

then followed him to Lots Road when he opened Connaughts .

Lovely guy ,very sad when you mentioned he had passed .

More sad news when i heard that Keven Humphries had died, believe he went on his own selling cars after Maranello and Portman.

Had another look through the Super Car nostalgia post by cc8s,

Wow it was like being transported back in time when in my thirties ,

Even a photo of the middle store room at the Tower where i saw Maranello's F40 for the first time in 1987,

Also spotted a photo of my old Countach in it's original gold at Castle Coombe before it's colour changed to blue,

Probably the Glory days of the Super Car as we knew it.

Ah sorry to hear about Kevan, another nice guy too. He had big shoes to fill at Portman after Mike but he did OK.

I spoke to Del yesterday prompted by this post. They were special times.

It's funny seeing Goodwood before it went all prim and posh.
